Aspen, my Persian/Himalayan kitten is now 3.5 months and truly the sweetest and best girl. She has the color points of a Himalayan but her eye color does not seem to match either parent.

Her parents were purebred and registered, one was a Persian and other Himalayan which I was able to meet and they were absolutely lovely.

My question is regarding my kitten’s eye color which perplexes me. Is it normal that her eye color is not that of a standard Himalayan nor of a Persian? The Persian parent had solid copper eyes and other had gorgeous deep blue eyes. Is this because the parents are not both Himalayan but Persian/Himalayan that her eyes are not the standard deep blue of a Himalayan?

She seems to have a blue rim around her pupil, however I have noticed her eye color now seems more tan color. I don’t know how any of this works. Can anyone explain this? I love her as is but just curious.

Pointed cats, like your kitten, will always have some variant of blue eye color, but the shade can vary from an almost white pale blue, to a very deep blue. My understanding is that cats with copper-eyed ancestors tend to have a paler blue eye, so I'm not surprised that your kitten's eyes are light blue. Here is a short article written by a Siamese breeder about eye color in Siamese cats, which gives an explanation of why a copper-eyed parent might produce kittens with lighter blue eyes:

That said, your kitten is still very young and her eye color isn't fully developed. I expect that you will see more changes in her eye color as she matures. She's certainly an adorable little baby!

She is still young so it could change. I know from experience if you introduce copper eyes into silver and goldens it can ruin the green eye color so it is feasible that it could with the blue eyes of the colorpoints. I have included photos to show the wide variation of eye color produced. Spencer (copper eyes) and Savannah (green eyes) are the parents. Sol, Zippy, Lottie and Tabitha are the resulting cats from the breeding. Sol has good green eye color, Zippys is mediocre, Lottie has algae green and Tabitha got her fathers copper eyes.
