Came home and fed Honeybun... did some housework and sat down to work on my cosplay and i hear her in the bedroom: "row? Rrow? RRROWW? ROW!". I call "what is it Honeybun" and she stops a min, then trots into living room meowing more. I refresh her water dish and throw her a couple toys, all of which she ignores, sitting on the dresser with a look like "do you see what i put up with?"

I walk over and pet her which she only allows for a minute (not like her), the she jumps dowm and with a "rrrrow" tossed over her shoulder she runs into the bathroom and sits on the (closed) toilet seat.

"I dont know kitty", i tell her. "When you figure out what you need let me know".

Anyone elses cats go through what seems like existential angst?

Oh yes. They try to tell us things that we humans just don’t always understand. I heard a noise! A bug is under your chair and you are in the way so that I can’t catch it! A raccoon was in the yard last night and you slept through it. Why can’t I have treats for supper? You didn’t greet me properly when you came inside. My tummy growled at me! I prefer running water from the tap! Humans are frustrating!
I also have a couple who are part Maine Coon. They just sing to themselves. It seems to be in the genes. Every one I’ve had from that line did that. I adopted out the litter mates and I hear that they all sing. They actually seem pretty happy when they are doing it. Just a statement of, I’m here world!

Yes! Gohan likes to meow at the walls, his toys, closed doors, the darkness, in the litterbox, us, his food....

The best part is he keeps trying different meows: some shouts, some questions, and a few sad mournful ones.
Yes, HB tries different ones too-a few questioning ones then a loud demanding one, rinse and repeat. It reminds me so much of a human inquiring "hello? Hello?" Then getting irritated and snapping "hellOOO!"

Thats the frustrating part-im sure there was a message she was trying to convey, i just dont speak cat-ese. Was probably several of the things you mentioned :p my Grandma had a huge gray Maine coon called Smokey Joe and he meowed a lot. He was the sweetest most chill kitty ever tho, like a big fluffy teddy bear. :hearthrob: whatever you did-picked him up, put sunglasses on him to take a pic-he was just like "oh, this is what we're doing? Fine by me" :)

Smokey Joe sounds like a sweetheart! I have a Smokey. She is a huge grey flour ball and cracks me up because she comes up and talks to me but then poses, either with the perfect girl photo is a dainty ( but large)lady or with her tongue sticking out. She always talks to me. My long haired Calico Yowls like a cat in heat but she just wants for me to take a walk in the garden with her. She also yowls at everything outside the window. My last rescue is a male that calls me anytime an intruding human comes in the yard. He is very protective of me and of the other cats. :silver:BJ is our watch cat! Whistle always does a long heaaaaaawow! I’ve never had one that really sounds like some strage whistle but he does. He always leads me to what he is trying to tell me. :runningcat:That’s very helpful! I love it when they talk.

Artie and I used to have conversations with each other. It was so cute. I loved it..

Geoffrey, has a squeaky, baby kitten meow. He is a big boy, and to hear his meow is so funny. It just does not go along with his body size.. and kind of like a squeak doll..

Over the past week, I have been trying to initiate his language. It works!! He is conversing with me!!

We are beginning to have conversations, also! Sometimes, when I am lying down, I call him, with a squeak.. he answers me, and comes over to me. Sometimes, he has to correct my phrasing. A language in progress!!!

Gohan has always been talkitive, but when we got Olive he would constantly chase here back to her safe room. He’s very bonded with Randall and the first time he didn’t chase (after months of it) Randall called to him and told him not to. What followed was an epic conversation where Gohan would plaintively meow - you could feel the emotion and frustration - and Randall would calmly reply “I know but she can be in the kitchen too”. Gohan would look at Olive, and back at Randall and chatter almost begging to chase and Randall literally talked him down.

This ended with Gohan calmly walking away and not chasing. I actually had tears in my eyes because after being so frustrated by the integration for months I not only saw progress but understood heartbreakingly certain how upset and stressed Gohan had been. I would have called people crazy had they said that you can talk to cats before this. Now I’m a convert.

I so wish they could speak English. Oh, the conversations Felix and I would have! I'd never be lonely ever again.

Felix does this almost daily. He's fed, litter is clean, he has water, played with, etc. But sometimes he'll just tap me on the arm with his little paw and meow. I'll pretend I know what he's saying and we go back and forth like this for a few minutes until he gets tired. He also does this to my mom.

Not sure what it is. Sometimes, when he does this, I'll pick him up and we'll watch TV together (he actually watches all the movement on the screen) and then he's off to sleep again.

I've come to the conclusion that sometimes cats like to meow or make noise just like we sometimes feel like humming or whistling, no real reason, we just like to make noise ;) Here the long, drawn out cries are either a prelude to puke or a toy that's been killed and needs to be shown off to a human.

Tarifa often "meowls" when coming down the hall that runs the length of the house. Usually, it's because she's "caught 'prey'" in the form of a "wild" sparkle ball. She's a very fierce lioness and she knows her servant is useless at hunting.:dancingblackcat:
If a cat hunts for you then you are a cherished servant! She is taking very good care of you and even calls you to dinner. Very loving of her!
