This picture look familiar to anyone? I’m making an appointment for Olivia (she is four) this week. This has been going on for a little over a week now. I thought it was an allergy to something but I thought it would have gone away on its own by now. She is always carrying stuff in her mouth including any bugs that get inside the house, so who knows what is going on? I guess I will find out in a couple of days.

Thanks to you all! Calling tomorrow morning for an appt. she carries everything around in her mouth....food dishes are all ceramic so I doubt it’s a dish issue. I feed PurinaOne Grain Free Chicken dry only. No food changes. Had a wasp get in the house and I’m sure her and her sister played with it before I could kill it. Also had a baby gecko that got inside that the two little ones were batting around until one killed it. Olivia carries everything in her mouth to keep the others away from it I guess.

She acts perfectly normal other than the lip look. I did have a cat with what my vet called a herpes virus on his mouth but it looked different - more ulcerated. I gave him Lysine until it cleared up. Olivia's upper lip is as smooth as a baby’s butt.

Hello to all you wonderful cat people. I took Olivia to my kitty doctor this morning and she said it was a pretty bad rodent ulcer. She got 20 mg of Depo-Medrol and tells me if it does not clear up in about two weeks to bring her back. I told her about everything Olivia carries in her mouth and we talked about food. My vet did not think it was any of that and said that sometimes they don’t know what the cause was. I took a picture of the bag of dry food that she eats my vet said that was fine. I feed out of ceramic bowls so I have no clue right now. Thanks to everyone.

This crazy little girl serenaded me the whole trip to the vet this morning.

Hi. Glad Olivia is being treated!! Sorry she serenaded you during the whole vet trip - I assume you meant that not in a good way!!

I believe it was mentioned in the above article: One of the possible causes can be related to allergies - food (or even environment), so I am not sure that can yet be ruled out unless your vet tested her for allergies related to her current foods.

Perhaps, you can use the above article as a reference in the unfortunate event that Olivia either doesn't get over this with the meds, or if she should acquire another one down the road. I certainly hope not!!

No the serenading wasn’t in a good way. But I tried to talk to her on the way and all she did was sing louder. Poor baby was shaking at the Vet. Her mom is a Siamese and she got her voice from her momma.

My vet told me we can investigate further if things don’t clear up.

Many thanks.

There were three. I trapped all three and one of my coworkers took the third one. She is living the life in the Virgin Islands now. My poor husband knew when I put food out, that they were to be mine soon.

My little girl Teddy Bear used to get rodent ulcers regularly; her lower lip would swell alarmingly. I finally discovered she was allergic to milk. I had been giving her only a couple of teaspoons a day, but it was enough. Once I stopped, she never got it again. I hope you find the cause and that it’s a simple one!

I hope it is something simple too. If it comes back, my first change will be the food. My vet said the food should be fine but who knows? I buy PurinaOne Grain Free Chicken. It is store-bought so maybe I need to think about a higher end food. Curious about opinions from others on food.

I can’t believe milk caused your baby’s rodent ulcer! So glad you thought of that.
