Hi! So I need help, my husband was at work (construction) and found a very tiny kitten, he left it alone but kept an eye on it for hours. It was time for him to leave work and the kitten was still alone with no mother, so he brought it home. I bought a bottle and kitten formula, and looked up a lot on line. But I’m wondering anyone’s guess on how old they believe it to be? Also when I bottle feed it it doesn’t latch on/suck on the bottle it just chews and naws on it. Any help is appreciated.. I’m going to take it to the vet as soon as I can

From the picture and your description I would guess 4/5 weeks. Old enough to begin to wean, hence the chewing on the bottle. Try offering kitten food mixed with the KMR (kitten milk) in a shallow dish or on a plastic spoon. We got our Nightfury around that age and he seemed to do better with a slurry. Easy to lap up and swallow but also had some chew quality and the meat taste the kitten is starting to want. Making it a slurry with the kitten milk also boosts the nutrition more than mixing with water. If you don't have kitten food you can substitute meat based baby food (no garlic or onion!) or throw some boiled chicken (no spices in cooking it) with the kitten milk in a blender until smooth.

:hellosmiley: and welcome to TCS!

Thank you for taking this kitten home and for nursing it. The kitten looks like around 2-3 weeks old or so. The eyes are still blue and have not changed color yet and that indicates that he's still very young.

Feed him with KMR milk replacer and see if he he has any teeth and see if he eats wet food. Feed him with canned kitten food or get the wet food labeled for 'All Life Stages' for him.

The mother could have abandoned him or he was abandoned by some humans. Yes, if you can, please bring him to the vet for a good look over and I do hope that you'll keep him or get him adopted.

Have you owned cats before or currently you have cats at home? Feel free to ask questions if you have any whether this is your first cat or you have cats at home now or you have cats before and post your questions in the appropriate forum pages for a quicker reply.

Enjoy your stay and see ya around

You'll also need to feed the kitten very frequently. Is it still every 2 hours at that age, StefanZ StefanZ , Sarthur2 Sarthur2 ?

Yes you can.

Besides him drinking the kitten's milk, you can also mix some into the wet food too.

Remember to feed him frequently as kittens needs lots of proteins and nutrients in their growing up age.

Kittens begin to cut teeth at 4 weeks old, and wean between 6-8 weeks to wet food and kitten chow. Eyes begin to change color between 8-12 weeks. He or she should be able to lap the slurry, and can have as much as they want as often as they want. You’ll want to set up a small box with non-clumping litter (in case he tries to eat it) and put him in it before and after meals.

Has the kitten managed to eat anything yet? It sounds like he’d been hours without food.

As he had mom he isnt used nor comfortable with bottle. A dropper or syringe may ne easier.

Or let it lick from your fingers till he get hang of things.

Little but often im the beginning till you are sure he is stable.

Be sure he is warm and comfy.

You can give water with some karo in. Let him lick of fingers.

The kitten is good, I had taken him to a vet shortly after my first post here and they told me he was a 3-4 week old boy, his name is now Ollie. His eyes are changing color and he eats wet kitten food and sometimes I’ll give him a little bowl of kitten formula, he loves to eat and he’s a healthy plump little boy. Soon he’ll be taken to the vet to get shots, he’s very bonded to me and doing very good! Thank you all for your help
