PLEASE, ask the vet if s/he has any contacts/associates/relatives/etc. that would be willing to take in Shadow. She really should NOT be left outside. I realize if s/he didn't offer something, it might not be an option, but you know what - ask anyway!

P.S. she is going to need LOTS of food.

This is so important, both that she needs shelter (from predators, the weather, other cats, everything!) and that she will need tons of food -- whatever she'll eat! -- to support those kittens.

Thanks. My next door neighbor is taking her in during the pregnancy and until the kittens are weaned and adopted out but will return her to me once all that is done so she can be spayed. We already discussed that since he is a vet he'll be better able to look after her during that time. And if she finds a permanent home with him that's good too. At least she'll be safe. :)

I'm so glad to hear that -- I hope he's able to find her soon now and take her in!

LOL, if you are able to find the answer to why cats are finicky, we will all be in your debt for ever ;)
Isn't that the truth? Shadow likes dry and won't eat unless it's dry. Shaman likes wet and won't eat unless it's wet food and Treasure (so far haha) likes a combo of both. I'm having to pick up some food for them today. PrimeNow is getting a bit expensive. Is Dollar Tree pet food ok or not? I know they own Family Dollar and I usually buy from Family Dollar when I don't have the funds for Prime Now (which I get gift cards and all for)

Hi!
I don't know the brands you have at your location but here I'm seeing that Dollar Tree has friskies and Iams, which are ok to feed. I also saw a brand called Greenbrier, you might avoid that one.

Thank you. I will check my Dollar Tree for Friskies or Iams. I know Iams is a good product. This every other day delivery from Prime Now is expensive especially with these finicky cats. I have put up an Amazon wishlist and shared with family and friends. lol

For what it's worth, since sometimes a dollar store is much closer and more convenient than a grocery store... it's also worth comparing Dollar Tree prices with supermarket prices. I've seen cat food at Dollar Tree that was priced at their usual $1 but cost less than $1 at the grocery store. I don't remember exactly what it was but it was something like Fancy Feast or Friskies, a big, decent brand readily available at the grocery store, not large cans.

I"m not good at math but the cheapest near me at my stores is 50 cents a can (grocery store). Even at Aldi. Family Dollar is 40 cents a can. Bags are usually $7.99 here.

I'm getting traps from our local TNR office. My neighbor would do it but he's in a clinic with other vets and doesn't want to raise eyebrows. But he has called the TNR to come and that way I won't have to deal with my Mom throwing fits at me. But I was told the cats are mine, especially if I've been feeding them more than 5 days. Hopefully the cats won't hate me too much.

They'll be cranky for a bit, but they'll get over it :)
Yep. I just filled up their bowl and teasingly told Shaman she needs to stop eating so much and she hissed like she does at Treasure who's her best friend, meowed and moved over to the bowl. They either don't eat or they're begging for food every 5 minutes.

Right now Shaman is hiding in a bush at the other end of our 1/4 acre back yard because our yard people are here cutting the grass. I guess the fact that she comes within 2 feet from me and runs from everyone else is a sign she is starting to trust me.

All the cats left me. And I just bought more food. Found out a neighbor has also been feeding them. Better food and more expensive than even Prime Now. I feel abandoned.

They will likely be back. It was the grass cutting that threw them off. The other neighbor has probably been feeding them all along anyway. Maybe you should talk to your neighbor-vet about sharing the plan you two have for the cats with the other neighbor?

Surprised your mom lets someone on the property to cut grass, given what you have told us.

Hopefully that's it and I'll trust the experts on here. I watched and Treasure cautiously made her way to the bowl sniffed and walked off in direction of the neighbor. Shaman did run off because of the grass cutting but after 2 hours still is gone.

Someone said that they are so used to begging me for food and I feed them everytime they beg that this is what they do or that they want to be sure the food is there for when they do get hungry. Learning to work with strays/ferals is so different and a new experience for me, as you can tell lol
