Hi, has anyone here ever put their cat on Revolution?
I'm thinking about putting my CKD cat on Revolution for heartworm preventation, but as always, I'm concerned about the side effects of medication. Reports of death are rare, but have apparently happened. Hoping others will weigh in on this medicine.

Yes. Leroy as on it for awhile but I stopped it because he developed bald spots on his head. A minor reaction to the Revolution. My other cat uses Revolution and hasn't had any reaction to it.

I've used it with no problems. If your cat is an inside cat it wouldn't be necessary. If he goes outside there are many gretaer dangers present that eventually will catch up with him. Believe me, I know.
I don't believe in using flea and tick medications, or any medication, unless there is a clear reason to do so. Such as seeing fleas or ticks. You might do some research or ask a trusted vet if there are any heart worm preventatives out there for cats.

we used revolution on HK and for over a year it was highly effective with no side effects. unfortunately it stopped working in our area, but if it works where you are, it's one of the better ones. there's always a possibility of side effects, so we'd start with 1/4 of a dose and add the other 3/4 after 24 hours.

Excellent question Wombat! Our vet's office is no longer offering the heartworm prevention we are currently using. They are switching to Revolution & I'm a little concerned mine guys may not do well on it.

basschick basschick ,
I'm curious what has it stopped work on? Heartworms, fleas, ticks? I'm mostly concerned about Heartworms. We had been purchased Advantage Multi I believe. Guess I should have asked why its no longer available. Although I hate chemicals/medications, I believe in heartworm prevention. Rarely have flea or tick issues with our kitties.

If your cat is only indoors there's no need for prevention. I only use these chemicals as treatment if necessary.

I think the effectiveness that was mentioned was referring to the flea prevention aspect. As far as I know, it guards against heartworm no matter where you are located. Maybe someone else has heard differently. Jcatbird Jcatbird do you have any info?

Hey! Heartworm prevention is a good idea anywhere mosquitos live. Cats inside can still get them. One mosquito in the house is all it takes and heartworms are tough to deal with. I have used all the mentioned methods. Our vet rotates whet they provide depending on the effectiveness in our areas. Fleas build up a tolerance to the chemicals. Your vet can give you the best information for your area. I use Advantaga Multi Cats. I live in an area that has mosquitos, fleas and ticks. All of these can easily come inside with or on a human so it’s a decision over whether or not you choose to use the chemicals. I’ve got a cat with heartworms. He was infected with them outside before I got him. I’ve also had cats that caught illnesses through flea bites. Parasites too. I choose to use the Advantge. I wish I could find a natural remedy! I have not had any I’ll effects from any of these products at this time. I love the suggestion basschick basschick made, 1/4 dose to see if kitty tolerates it and follow with the rest of the dose the next day. Excellent idea!
I don’t know if this is going to be something that becomes prevalent but hear that cats can also get Lyme disease from ticks. I understand that this is rare but treatments have now been issued to vets for dogs. Outside cats will always be at highest risk for all these problems but if fleas or ticks ever manage to take hold in your house, they are difficult to eliminate.

I would have to say Revolution is probably among the safer preventatives, my family has used it on all of our Cats (7 total) with no side effects. The shelter I volunteered at also used it for all of their animals and I never heard about any side effects there.

Although I live in the tropics, I’m not comfortable with putting my guy on Revolution Long term. I’m in the middle of moving house, and although we live on the 8th floor mosquitoes have been known to inhabit high rise apartments. We haven’t put mosquito screens up yet so I’m concerned a mosquito may have snuck in during that time. So I plan to put him on a course of Revolution next month, but I’m very leery of medication and felt I needed more info. Thank you all for your input!
