Hey, I'm new to this forum. I just created this account to ask some opinions from other cat owners.

So I have a female cat that gave birth about 2-3 weeks ago, at the time she gave birth to 4 cute little kittens. After that she cared for them and never left the house. Nothing unusual. Her belly also seems normal.

Now, the question. Today she gave birth to a very small kitten, the kitten looked very weak but nothing is wrong with it. The kitten is pretty active and it tried to get some milk from the mother but I think its having a hard time. So I fed it powdered kitten milk. It is sleeping currently but its body temperature is a bit low, not as warm as I think it should be.

Any opinions or explanations?

Welcome to TCS. It happens sometimes that queens carry two litters from different matings. It is important that the little one is kept warm. He and his siblings should be weighed daily to ascertain they are progressing adequately, hopefully 10 grams per day.

Would love to see some photos.

It’s good that you’re giving supplements to the kitten. Be sure to weigh it daily, aiming for about 10 g of gain per day, as Golondrina said. If the kitten’s body temperature is low, you can give him a heating pad or heat lamp to warm it.

Yes the little needs some extra help. I like the idea of heating lamp for example such an IR heatng lamp rheumatics use. Or people with lizard terraries.
This way the kitten wont be chilled out when you handfeed.

Let it nurse when biggies are asleep so it doesnt need to wrestle with them.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy caring for the little one this couple days. Sadly it was not able to make it through the night. Though I woke up a couple times in the middle of the night just to feed it. Poor thing couldn't get some breastmilk from the mother because the competition between it's siblings.

This is so sad.
I am so sorry. You tried your best. That baby is meant to be an angel from the beginning.

Rest in peace, little one. :(
