Hello :-).

I have a very big long haired fluffy male cat who to the best of my recollection (he’s almost 5) has always gotten urine on his back legs/backside area after urinating in the litterpan. I’ve assumed this is normal as he’s had his urine tested in the past (for other reasons) and has been fine. Is this just a long haired kitty issue? It’s getting tiring wiping him off when he goes. He can get pretty wet.

I’m wondering if this could be a dribble issue or something instead?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions :-)

Hi. It could be just the way he pees. All cats are different from that aspect. If he has had a full urinalysis/urine culture done, then it is likely to be more related to his nature, or even perhaps the litter box. It is possible you need a bigger box, a higher level of litter, or anything else that might make him go more normally?

I am not one who has had to address this kind of issue, but there are other members who have had their cat's behind shaved/trimmed periodically to help out.

As usual, having long hair can mean hair getting in the way as they squat to pee. One way is what FeebysOwner FeebysOwner mentioned, have the fur on the behind or legs trimmed.

This is because either your kitty pees a lot at one go and the litter does not absorbed the pee fast enough and forms a pee puddle during the peeing time and thus the long hair is soaked in the pee.

Thank you for your responses! Tabbytom, That thread was helpful! My boy sits his fuzzy butt all the way down when he tinkles and he also makes large clumps. I’m guessing the clumping can’t keep up with him and the fact that he sits flat isn’t helping!! He’s a good water drinker and goes a few times or more daily. His kidneys are healthy, I’ve checked... he’s just always had a thing for water. Looks like I’ll have to have him trimmed. I’ll still consult with my vet to be sure.

Maybe try a pellet litter, either pine or paper. That should eliminate a puddle as he pees, and pellets won’t stick to his fur like clumping litter can

Greg and arnold have very furry, bushy butts. Frankly I dont know how they manage to not pee on themselves....but thankfully they dont.

Maybe its your kittly litter not absorbing well.

My Maine coon mix would occasionally pee and poop on his long “underpants” lol. I eventually had to have his underpants area shaved once every month or so. Stopped having the problem after that
