I thought I had my allergy acting up.. ended up with asthmatic bronchitis and pneumonia...
I really thought it was allergies causing a sinus infection, which was causing a cough.. nope... Went to the doctor's yesterday; came out will an armful of prescriptions...

As I learned, a low grade fever, for over 3 days is not a good thing..

I have another friend who is going through the same thing, right now..

Today I washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, and got the wood stove going again this evening.

I placed the bulk cat litter order, and ordered the flea treatments for my three for the warm/hot weather months.

i also sliced/wrapped/labeled/froze the second two pans of cherry carob brownies, that I baked yesterday. That recipe was a new one for me, and definitely a keeper! The brownies taste so good :cloud9: , what I'd call a happy medium between fudge type and cake type brownies. And the recipe calls for almond extract, instead of vanilla --which took it up a few notches, into fantastic. I came across that recipe at cherryman dot com, in the recipe section, in desserts.

I'm just about finished with the first gallon jar of maraschino cherries now. I'll move on to the second jar with my next baking, which will be two ovens full of Cherry Brown Butter Bars -- a Smitten Kitchen recipe.

I've played some computer games earlier, and watched some tv. I'll play a bit more with the computer games, before getting my cats and myself ready for bed.

What kind of books do you like?
I was given a whole library of books by the inheritors of a German lady professor who had died, in all about 500 books or more. There were quite a few books that were of no interest to me so I gave those away to two different libraries. About 1/3 were in German and they were books on all kinds of different subjects. There were collections of famous German poets and translations from English language writers such as Shakespeare and William Faulkner, none of which I had ever read. Also a bunch of German classics that I never got around to reading. There were also popular modern writers but after reading one or two decided they were not my cup of tea and I gave the rest of them away. The English language books were everything from Jane Austin to travels in the Orient and Mark Twain. So I am working my way through all those books that i wish I had been given 20 years ago. I read the Smithsonian and Scientific American, I like science fiction (Heinlein and Asimov are my favorites but as both them have passed there will be no new books of theirs although there are a few of them I have not yet read) and fantasy books, books that are set on different planets or in different times and historical novels. I am also working my way through American and English classics, I have read almost all of Michener's books. So yes, I think my reading is rather eclectic and I hope I will be able to read all these books before I fade into the sunset although there is a good chance that I will be around for another 20 years.

artiemom artiemom Rick seems to be doing better again. He was doing pretty well, then we had that cold weather, rain and snow, etc. and his sinuses went crazy. It doesn't help with the dusty environment that he works in. The man lives on Advil Cold and Sinus. Yesterday, he was outside most of the afternoon and he said he could tell that his sinuses were loosening up again. This morning, he's not too bad. Thanks!

I made snickerdoodle dough and chocolate crinkle dough last night. This morning, I'll bake the cookies. The chocolate crinkles are to take down to our granddaughter on Wednesday; I'll tell her she has to share with her brother, but it's chocolate, so....all bets are off for sharing. She is her grandmother's granddaughter after all. And it's chocolate, so.... And the snicks? Well, they're for Dear Richard. Just because.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my coffee. Rick stripped the bed down and threw the sheets in the washer. He'll scoop when he gets up from his morning nap.
  • I'll do three loads of laundry today; one load will be cat stuff.
  • Bake the cookies
  • Spa day for the cats later on this morning; Molli and Tabby need those claws reigned in and Tabby needs an ear cleaning. Then we'll get a couple of The Beast's claws, too.
  • Going back outside this afternoon
Rick's mom called me on Friday, told me that we shouldn't come up this weekend. She's coming down with something: sore throat, runny nose, etc. I expect the home to be back under quarantine any time now. It seems that place is always under quarantine for something.

  • Boxes
  • Tea x 2
  • Having my hair cut and colored today at the salon. It's been over a year since I've been to a salon for other than a cut but I just am unable to do it myself this time. It hasn't been cut nor colored since December and it looks scandalous.

My 3 things for today:

- a couple more hours of work related computer stuff
- bake pumpkin mini loaves and muffins (using cranberries, walnuts and coconut)
- begin knitting a new pair of socks (it's been maybe 7 years since I knit a pair of socks and now that's all I want to do - thinking - oooooh I could get a head start on Christmas gifts *heh heh* Yes I'm mean for even saying the C word.

artiemom artiemom I hope you're feeling better this morning!

We managed to get some outside work done over the weekend; Saturday was the better of the two days. Man, yesterday, the wind roared and gusted. We were trying to rake leaves and eventually gave up. Ridiculous. We got done what we could and well, today is another day.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 4 miles, and got ready for work
  • Must grab a few groceries tonight
  • Scoop the boxes

today i've made a phone call. and don't have the wood stove going -- for the first day so far this spring! :yess: i'll be baking today, so the warmth from the oven will be enough until at least this evening.

i'll wash the dishes, have already scooped the litter boxes, and then get going on making those Cherry Brown Butter Bars. :D

this evening i'll either watch some tv (i've started re-watching the series Murder, She Wrote...will watch the full series over time), or play some computer games and continue with a jigsaw puzzle.

kitkatgurl kitkatgurl Your muffins sound yummy!
micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom I turned the heat off in the house over the weekend and didn't bother to turn it back on. It's about time! It's still getting chilly here at night, but the electric blanket works well at keeping the chill off while we're sleeping.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked four miles, and got ready for work (BTW, getting ready for work = a quick shower, packing my breakfast -- oatmeal, milk, and some fruit -- making my coffee, giving the kids their after-breakfast snack, getting Muffin back into the computer room for the day, giving The Beast her cookie and getting her in the living room for the day, and finally, getting out the door. It can get convoluted in the morning, especially when I'm in a hurry. Meanwhile, I've got kids screaming for their snack, even though they had breakfast not more than two hours ago! Sometimes I'll get my breakfast ready at night and throw it in the fridge, but that doesn't happen often.
  • I have a hair appt right after work
  • Scoop the boxes and do a quick vacuum about the house

today i've washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, and got the wood stove going again (after two days, it's a high of 42 degrees F here today...:cold: ). two containers of beanless chili, and two pounds of butter were moved to the fridge to thaw. i also separated the rest of the maraschino cherries into groups (with juice) for the last three recipes i need to bake, to finish them up. and i have the load of laundry i started in the wee hours of this morning, in the dryer now. i also made a phone call, looking into something.

this evening i'll either play some computer games and continue with a jigsaw puzzle, or watch some tv -- depending on how tired i feel.

i went to the local produce auction this week, and brought home: one 3 pound brick of Philadelphia brand cream cheese (need a pound for the two bundt cakes i'll be baking, and the rest will be used with raw veggies and in mashed potatoes -- though, i can freeze some in chunks if needed) which went for $3 but was gifted to me :D , a bunch of bananas at $1.25, a net bag of clementines (a dozen) for $2.75, 5 small cantaloupes at 50 cents (for them all) -- which i gifted 3 of them and have two for myself, a quart of tomatoes (two lovely ripe large ones) for $2.25 -- tomato and mayo sandwiches :cloud9: , 8 boxes of Malt O Meal Oat Blenders cereal (generic version of Honey Bunches of Oats) at $1 per box, and one case (of 6, 12 ounce containers) Heluva Good Buttermilk Ranch Dip for $4.

no (human) family, but do have three kitty furmily members! :purr:

i do love to bake! right now, i'm getting close to finishing 'putting up' for the hot summer months -- in my freezers. my range oven goes 'on hiatus' during the hot weather. i'll have enough dinner and dessert servings that i won't need to cook (dinners) or bake (desserts) until it cools down here, sometime around mid october. :yess:
