Hi everyone,
I'm trying to attach a photo here so hopefully it works. I found this weird piece of something as I was dishing up Pierre's food this morning. It almost looks like a pebble and it's very hard. What's strange is I had found something similar a while ago in a totally different brand of food, so I stopped feeding it to him. Since that seems like a coincidence, now I'm wondering if it's some filler I'm not aware of. I just can't imagine a case where it should be consumed, though. Does anyone know what this is?

I should also add that this was in canned food, not dry.

It might be bone, and any cooked bone in the food that's not soft is dangerous. What food did you find it in?

Purina has recalled its Muse canned food because of rubber bits in the food. Could that be what this is?

I saw the Muse recall, but this was in Crave. Pierre has been eating it since his dental and really likes it. It's protein based, but I don't think they include bones. I like it because it comes in smaller twin packs so I don't have to refrigerate and that goes over better with Pierre. I sent the photo and description to the company, hopefully I will hear back tomorrow.

What are the ingredients. If the first ingredient is just “chicken” it has bones. Only type of meat that doesn’t have bones is “deboned meat”

The first three ingredients are turkey, chicken, and liver. Wow, so maybe pieces of hard bone are getting through processing. I wonder how much of that he's eaten. Last week he had a bad cycle of vomiting after eating for several days. I will be interested to hear what the company has to say.

The strange thing is I also found something very similar recently in a Friskies pate, which I was giving during the vomiting because he wasn't wanting to eat anything else. Does anyone know if this is common?

For now, it's back to Science Diet for us.

My guess is bone. Of course, as noted by leechi leechi , cooked bone is bad.

I just found a big seed in Oscar's food. Since he lives in the cat fence until we can gradually turn him into an inside cat, I'm happy to have found it. It could have been poisonous. Birds love to eat his dry food, and DH thinks one of them dropped in the bowl. It was the weirdest looking thing.
