Another reminder, the shelter workers/volunteers at this rural shelter would appreciate any donations of toys/food/treats/medicine/cleaning supplies. The kitties there will benefit from any donations. :heartshape: :purr:

Here's the link to the Amazon wish list: Fitzgerald Ben-Hill County Humane Society - Cat Wishlist

The kitties also like the Stretch & Scratch pads. These allow them to relieve stress when in a cage.

If anyone wants to donate any of these here's the link (they aren't on Amazon so I couldn't add them to the list there): Order Scratchers Now!

During check out on the stretch and scratch website just put in the shelter's address and they will ship the scratchers there, you can find it on their Facebook (Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society) but I will paste it here too:

Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society
106 Lions Park Rd
Fitzgerald, GA 31750-8883
United States

Also, if you want you can message the shelter on Facebook or call them at (229) 426-5078 and ask which items they need the most right now. I'm sure they would love that. Their hours are:
Sunday - Monday: CLOSED
Tuesday - Friday:
12pm-4:30pm
Saturdays:
10am-12pm

Thank you again to the previous donors! I love thecatsite, it unites people around the world to help. :redheartpump:

Here's another kitty post from the shelter. These kitties are in the front room, they have more in 2 other rooms in the back. Those kitties are in smaller kennels and so would appreciate the stretch and scratch pads more than these would.

If anyone wants to donate to these kitties, see my previous post above this one. :redheartpump::cutecat::redheartpump:

:eek3: Alert! :eek3:

The shelter posted that they need cat litter!

It's on the list here: Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society - Cat Wishlist

Or if you have any leftover or extra litter that you want to ship to them, their address is:

Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society
106 Lions Park Rd

United States

Any donations are appreciated! Just let me know if you donate and I'll make sure to update you when they receive it. Or, you could call them yourself if you want. Their phone number is in my previous posts.

Or if you prefer not to notify anyone, anonymous donations are of course welcome.

It just KILLS me when they put their little paws through the bars like that. I wish I could adopt them all!
I know! :frown: I find the rural county shelters the saddest because they often don't have as much money as the bigger ones, so smaller cages and less supplies/volunteers/money in general. That combined with super high intake is a sad combination.

Those pics are supposed to be in my original post, since the ones there stopped working a moderator said that if I uploaded them here they would merge them into that post again. So that's why I posted them randomly. They are the original pics from when I first visited the shelter, plus a couple extra from that visit.

Update! We went back to the shelter (finally) and took some pictures of the kitties!! The shelter has improved a lot since we first visited. The cats now have outdoor "catios" ! :banana1:These allow most of the adult cats to stay outside most of the time, which is way better than being in the indoor crates. Here are some pics that one of the shelter employees posted:

There are two of them, one for males and one for females. They only have one "cat room" inside now (instead of two), and the only cats inside were young 3-4 week old kittens and a mama cat with kittens. So a few empty crates. There were also some cat kennels under the awning outside, but they were also empty when we visited. All that can change, but hopefully they won't have a big influx of cats. :crossfingers:

Here are the boys. There were four of them, all unneutered, and super sweet. They hissed a bit at each other, but who wouldn't?

The above guy jumped on my shoulder when I was not expecting it. :)

And here are the girls. There were 4-5 (can't remember the exact number) black kitties, and one grayish one. The shelter said the black ones all came from the same person, so they knew each other. They were taking turns HOWLING for attention and were not being nice to the grey kitty. But they were all friendly. I did notice that they were super skinny.

The great thing about the wire is that they can climb it, all the way to the roof!

These kittens were inside. They were semi-feral and the little black ones were "fierce" when you tried to pick them up. The shelter is working on taming them, they are so tiny it was easy to hold them, so shouldn't be too hard. I felt bad for the little guys not having a mom (although they were eating wet food), and gave them a blanket.

The only other cats inside were these kittens and mama. They were right by the door covered in a blanket and we didn't notice them until right before we left. The shelter said this kitty is nursing twelve kittens. They said that she came in with (I think it was 5 or 6 kittens), and then someone left a cat in a box with some more kittens. Before they could get the box the mama cat had jumped out and ran away, so they gave the kittens to this mama.

And finally, a reminder that this rural shelter would love any donations for their kitties! :happycat:

Anything you order from the Amazon wish list will be shipped straight to the shelter: :redheartpump: Fitzgerald Ben-Hill County Humane Society - Cat Wishlist :redheartpump:

Any donation is appreciated. The list has everything including food, toys, medicine, and beds. Currently the shelter has enough cat litter (although they will eventually use any sent).

If you want you can message the shelter on Facebook or call them at (229) 426-5078 and ask which items they need the most right now. I'm sure they would love that. Their hours are:
Sunday - Monday: CLOSED
Tuesday - Friday:

Saturdays:
10am-12pm

Let me know if you donate so I can make sure to let you know when the shelter receives the item(s)! :purr:

The shelter posted the kitties on Facebook!

And then the lady who runs the shelter posted this:

They were able to secure a chance for some of the kitties to be rescued! All they have to do is spay/neuter them and they can go. If anyone wants to donate to that fund feel free. (the paypal link is in the post)

The shelter posted some more about the kitties needing sponsors! It is $80 to sponsor one but you can send any amount, just note that you want it to go towards a cat sponsorship.

Thanks for that additional info about a partial sponsorship. That will help a lot of people.
