Sorry for the delay today. I had to go pick up our grocery order and feed people and animals.

Are you "handy" around the house?

I can handle some tools and home repairs. DH and I enjoy painting and working on projects together too. He's usually able to figure things out when he doesn't know how to do something. Google and YouTube are big helps. ;)

We spent Friday and Saturday working on the water heater. (DH did most of the work.) Friday morning when he got up the water was coming out of the tap scalding hot! The kitchen meat thermometer read 170*!! (76*C) It shouldn't be over 120! I'm glad no one got hurt (except DH's thumb a little; no blister though)! DH ended up changing everything; thermostats, elements (one was due!) and the anode rod; which was a royal pain to get out. It only took 3 separate trips to various hardware and auto part stores to get all the parts and tools we did not have. :lol2: Oh a replacement for the extension for the torque wrench that we managed to break.

It wasn't the "funnest" of projects but hey we did it together! (Along with some prayer!! :agree:) And that shower Saturday evening felt pretty amazing!

Its so satisfying fixing something yourself. I love diy and will try anything that doesnt involve electrics or plumbing. Over the years I've laid patios, built dry stone walls and the biggest project was doing all the groundwork for a conservatory. Love it but does nothing for my hands and nails

I'm handy, within reason. I won't use and extension ladder, only a stepladder. I'm super accident prone. I can use a hammer. I will paint, assemble things, etc. I don't do electrical or plumbing, but I do try to unclog things.

No. Duct tape is my friend.

Fortunately, my spouse is a contractor so he handles a lot of the repairs and if he can't, he has friends in other trades who can help.

When we moved here over 20 years ago, we did all the interior painting and things like that, but as we get older, we hire people to do more of it.

I'm not a DYI person but I think I'm handy in some regards. I usually look up how to do things on youtube or consult one of those old-fangled paper things with the pointy edges and then hope I have the tools.

My mom and step-dad are extremely handy. They've been doing Habitat for Humanity for years and years and volunteer with the Red Cross- they do some intake but mostly they set up wires or do minor construction. They are genuinely handy as a result of growing up in a time when you did it yourself or you didn't get it done.

My husband is the least handy person I know. I try to teach him things and he is stronger than me- so some tasks I simply don't have the muscle for and need him but he doesn't have the know-how. He's brilliant with computers, networks and programming though.

I'm not into anything electrical or plumbing, but I'm pretty handy with everything else.Hubby's been in construction forever,so I learned from the best!I have my own hand tools here in the house, and if I needed to,I could go out in the shop and run the tablesaw or whatever else is out there. Now when it comes to a ladder,it'd be more safe if I stayed off it.

I love fixing things, but I'm not sure I'm really good at it. I fixed my snowblower this winter, and I've built a basement, wired in lights, etc. But for the life of me I couldn't fix my lawn-mower, even when youtube said it was a "beginner fix".

That reminds me of how my stepdad is. He could build you an airplane or a car; but house repairs aren't his thing! DH can handle the lawn mower repairs most of the time; but sometimes has to call my stepdad for help.

I grew up with both my dad and stepdad being car guys and having both grandfathers into woodworking. My mother's father is the one who taught me most of what I know about tools and home repair projects. I never realized how patient he was until I had kids of my own that need teaching.

Yeah, I am pretty good at repairs and miscellaneous home stuff and enjoy it. I just hate paying for things I can do and it’s fun to learn a new skill or new tool. So many projects are really not that difficult if you have the right tools and there are YouTube videos that can walk you through just about anything.

I do have a problem though with anything that has too many moving parts and mechanical things. That part of my brain isn’t apparently wired right and while I can take this kind of stuff apart, I am likely not to be able to put it back together or to be able to figure out why it is broken.
