Hey everyone!
Having my mother-in-law, as well as my husband's aunt and uncle over for a late lunch for my mil's b-day next weekend. I don't want a heavy dinner meal, but I will have a mix of hot and cold dishes.
My mil likes these bacon wrapped chicken tenders I make, so that will be the main meat dish, but I honestly don't know what else to make, but this is what I was thinking.
  • bacon wrapped chicken tenders
  • veggie platter
  • mix of bruschetta and garlic bread
  • pasta salad
  • cheese ball w/ crackers/pitas
  • and if there is left over bacon....bacon wrapped water chestnuts.
My husbands aunt and uncle will be bringing a cesar salad and the cake.

Is that too weird of a combo?
Should I have another hot dish?
What are your go to "guests are coming" dishes?

I think the menu sounds fun, and different, and enjoyable. As long as your visitors don't have expectations of a more typical, heavier meal I think you're golden :)

I usually only cook for guests around the holidays, which of course is different because the expectations are pretty much set in stone lol

Do you plan on having any dip or anything for the veggie platter? Do you plan to have some kind of beverage? Punch? Coffee? Iced tea?

Have a great day!

i think your menu sounds heavenly! My 'go to' meal is homemade chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes, and homemade yeast rolls. It's my 'signature' meal and everyone kinda expects it now, but it IS heavy! Nobody makes noodles anymore, and they sure taste like NOTHING you can buy!

Most definitely there will be dip for the veggies, and when it comes to beverages, I'm always stocked up on a variety of things (tea (huge variety), coffee (plain and flavored), pop/soda (different flavors), milk, wine (red and white), liquor, water (bottled if they're picky)....the only thing I don't have is juice/iced tea, because we just don't drink it, and with who's coming, I don't think I'll need to worry about it. And worst case, I do have juice crystals (cherry) that I can mix up.

Sounds great to me. The only suggestion I have is a fruit tray of some kind, maybe with grapes, strawberries, cantaloupe or watermelon, apple slices, etc.
