We are discovering that our 9 month old ragdoll has food sensitivities. The vet suggests that we put him on a novel protein diet. For background info we've only fed him canned and tried Weruva Classic (just chicken), instinct original turkey, chicken, rabbit and venison, wellness core (chicken, turkey/duck, beef/venison) and all has given him horrible diarrhea, except Instinct turkey. I'm looking at Instinct Limited and Blue Buffalo Basics. Does anyone have any recommendations? It seems like chicken and beef are the big culprits. I'm at my wits end and just want the diarrhea/vomiting to stop. :(

Aww what a cutie! Other than the protein, cats can also be sensitive to peas and grains. If he has issues with peas, it is hard to avoid because many of the LID foods seem to have them.

Do you have access to Kasiks (also called First Mate) or Rawz brand? They are a little pricier, and don’t call out LID but based on the ingredient list it might as well be.

Also, make sure to change foods slowly ... it may take up to 8 weeks for an allergen to be out of his system. It’s a slow process, unfortunately.

You really have to be careful with even the limited ingredient diets. Chicken sneaks into everything and is probably the first one to eliminate in trying new foods. Each cat is slightly different so it is difficult to say there is one fix.

Ok, thank you so much! It's good to know that it takes a while for the allergen to leave. The vet said the next step would be to send a blood panel away to check for maldigestion and malabsorption disorders. Hoping we can find something that will work so we can avoid that. :)

:yeah: Some cats are sensitive to all poultry and anything that comes from poultry: eggs, liver, etc. It can take awhile to figure out what a cat is sensitive too.
