My cat is all over my bed every night. As I live in a loft, there is no bedroom door to close. She ultimately will sleep above my pillow near my head, after trotting around the bed. I know cats like to sleep in this location, close to their owners. However it's disturbing my husband because she doesn't care for him. He has even retreated to the couch some nights. Should I crate her at night? I don't like the idea but I have to change the bed linen every morning since she's walking all over it every night. Thoughts and suggestions welcomed. Thanks!

Could you buy one of those electric heated cat beds and put it nearby? It might attract her away from the bed itself.

You can try purchasing a heated bed for her and setting it somewhere on your room. I would then pick her up and set her bed whenever she comes on yours. It may take a few weeks before she makes the switch but hopefully she will.

Kenneling would contain the cat but more than likely the howling, scratching and noisy carrying on the cat will do will keep you and your husband from getting any sleep. If you do decide to kennel then it it should be a extra large one with room for the cat to move around.

Can you move or buy a piece of furniture (a night stand maybe?) and move itnext to your bed on your sid, by your pillow.

......on your side by your pillow. Then put a pillow or cat bed on the night stand.... and try a heating pad on low under her cat bed? (Just on at night.)

That said I see no reason why your cat can’t sleep with you. I don’t know all the details, from what I have heard it sounds like your husband doesn’t like your cat and is looking for reasons to complain. There is no reason you need to change your bedding simply because the cat got on it. Simply put this sounds like a people problem not a cat problem.

I vote for giving the cat a warm (heated) place to sleep instead of the bed.

Casper will occasionally come up on the bed to sleep with me for a while but, on many occasions, I'll hear the furnace click on then, about a minute later, Casper gets up and goes to lay by the heater vent.

I was never allowed to have animals in bed with me, since I was a kid so, to me, it seems "foreign" to have a cat on the bed while I sleep. Casper is such a sweet, quiet cat and he doesn't make a fuss in the bed so I let him stay. Even so, I just never feel 100% comfy unless Casper stays near the foot of the bed.

So... We compromise... Casper gets to sleep in bed near his humans and I get a furry foot warmer. ;) Everybody is happy! :D

If you can't get the cat to sleep elsewhere, maybe you could try encouraging her to sleep near the foot of the bed, perhaps by putting a heating pad or electric blanket in that area, thus encouraging her to stay where it's warmest.

One of my cats does laps around my bed all the time. He cuddles up then gets up and literally goes around me and the whole bed in circles, over me, sometimes he jumps over my head or jumps over me, sometimes he goes stepping on or running on my ribs, stomach or chest, painful! He usually runs over the dog and other cat too, causing fights with the cat who's sleeping or in hunter mode and the dog gets up and leaves, usually also stepping on me (all 90+ pounds of him!).
The cat won't settle for hours sometimes with constant pacing and circling, sometimes winds up back in the exact same spot he started out in.
Drives me nuts! Is this what's going on with you?

I'm not complaining I love my pets sleeping with me and I get upset when my dog leaves in the middle of the night.
That being said I want them to just sleep and stop running over me. I'm covered in bruises! I'm not a highway!

My Bourbon also sleeps on my pillow, above my head. When I switch places with my husband, she follows me. She also walks around the bed at night, as if our bodies are the highway or a side street. Imagine a 5 kg cat prancing about. LOL. But I don't mind, neither does my husband.

As what was suggested above, I also vote for a heated bed. But this will also not guarantee that she will sleep on that bed, as I believe she is attached to you and prefers to sleep where she can smell you much closer. This is probably how cats show their affection to their owners.

I get not wanting them to run over you. I had to close my closet doors; so he would quit running over my head to get on my night stand and jump up onto my closet shelves. I also had to play dead for a month and a half to get him stop trying to wake me up to play with him.
Cute little twerp is lucky I love him ;)

I have to change the bed linen every morning since she's walking all over it every night.

You shouldn't have to change the bed sheets every morning. Cats are actually pretty clean.
Or throw an old sheet or blanket over the bed at night and remove it in the morning if you are concerned about dirt and loose hair.

But doesn't the cat hang out on the bed during the day when you're not home since you don't have a bedroom door? :headscratch:

Putting the cat in the bathroom at night is a better option to a crate / kennel but you'd still have to deal with constant meowing all night long.

There are suggestions here on how to sleep at night with minimal disruption from an active cat: How To Stop My Cat From Waking Me Up At Night (step-by-step Plan)
