I got up at 4 A.M. this morning for work and there was a young, unneutered tom hanging around outside. He's skittish but friendly once he realizes that you're no harm and he looks very, very healthy. I plastered his picture all over the internet today, Facebook and such, trying to find who he belongs to. So far he hasn't gone home. He's just been chilling in my backyard like he owns it.

I can't keep him. My poor Sir HATES male cats with a fiery passion and he is practically frothing at the mouth. (He has been known to KILL male cats before, I guess it's that old stray/former tomcat instinct) But I'm willing to let him hang around outside until I can find his owner, get him to a shelter, or get him neutered.

But in the meantime...he has hosed the entire front end of my yard down! He caused a stink FAST. Sir is freaking out. Reese wants to go meet him. I can't stand the smell. Is there anything that I can do to stop him in the meantime or something?

Spray the areas he has been with a mix of half water half vinegar. It will neutralise the smell and most cats dont like the smell of it. I also use old plastic bottles filled with water and place where you dont want him to go such as near the door.

Is there anyway you could take him to a no kill shelter? Or take him to get neutered? He won't stop spraying his nasty tom cat pee smell until he is neutered.

I would use something stronger than vinegar. The vinegar will neutralize the smell, but only for a short while. You need something with enzymes in it to break down the chemical bonds of the urine. I like to use this inside my house, but it might work outside too.

I have used this product outside when I had 3 feral neutered cats living on my property. From time to time a stray cat would appear. This stuff did the trick of getting rid of the odor.
You may need to get a black light and go outside at night to find all of the places.

Yet it won't stop unless he is neutered.

Someone contacted me today saying that she was 100 percent convinced that he was her months lost kitten. Sadly, she came over and we looked all over the neighborhood together for him. All we got was that nasty smell. No kitty. :disappointed:

Can you set up a trap and see if you can catch the cat? I really hope it is her kitty and once she has the cat back, she promptly gets him neutered.

She was planning to. He was a kitten when he escaped. My SIL has a trap I'm going to ask to borrow. (only problem is my next door neighbor has three outdoor cats)
