The only problem I have with buying anything online is that UPS claims my address doesn't exist and USPS will not do anything over 20 lbs.
USPS can, technically, handle parcels up to 70 pounds. But UPS and FedEx are way cheaper than USPS for large heavy things (for businesses, not for individuals!) so most companies won't send it USPS.

If there's a FedEx store in the town you shop in, they let you pick it up there (Chewy uses FedEx, at least for me).

Do you have another address (friends, family, work, etc.) you could send packages to?

Also..how do you get mail is UPS claims your house doesn't exist?
No I don't.
I have a PO Box for mail.

That's a good idea. Never thought of that.
If/when I'm able to move again, I will stop at the one we have (if it's still there) and ask about this.

It might be helpful to compare calories. There's a great chart on this vet-written site: https://catinfo.org/docs/CatFoodProteinFatCarbPhosphorusChart.pdf

You do have to note the size of the can when you look at the calories column on the right but once you get that figured out, it's relatively easy to compare.

The big thing is to figure out how expensive the food is per calories, since it's the calories you need to increase for Kumal rather than the number of ounces of food. Kitten food can be a good bet for those situations!

Awesome article, Thanks
I'll read it more in depth when I can see straight. (I did read about half)

I forgot about the nutrition information at the top! There's a chart of hundreds of foods down the page. And if you go to just catinfo.org, there's a really-really-really long article about how to feed cats. It's where I learned the basics on what cats need.

Happy reading! :)

kashmir64 kashmir64 how new is this guy to you, how long have you had him? Was he recently neutered?
Cats are pickier than dogs of course but I've seen my share of strays and alley cats getting into garbage bins. I don't think most canned food will hurt him :catman:
Does he like cooked meat or any cat safe "people food" you could offer as interesting and varied snacks?

I got him Monday afternoon. All I know about him is that his owner died and he had ear mites, a URI and some other skin condition that have been cleared up. He was altered before the shelter got him.

Dr Elsey's dry food is very nutritious and so delicious my cat thinks it is a treat. If you contact them they will mail you samples, so you can see if it works for your cat.

I like it as a treat, because it is nutritionally balanced, so you don't have to be as careful limiting it as you do with normal treats.

Dry food is not the issue. I need reasonably priced decent canned food. I do think kitten is my best option for awhile.

If he is healthy he should gain weight just by getting enough to eat. Ailish was underweight and her hair wasn't very healthy (I don't know her history, but she was pregnant and under a year old when originally rescued from a kill shelter) when I got her, but I just fed her according to how much she should have weighed and after a couple months she was up to speed. At first she didn't eat her whole meals, but she was very scared when she first came to me. Eventually she was cleaning her plate, her hair started looking good, and she had reached her healthy weight of 8-9 pounds.

Poor cat, and if the owner is able to see him in a good home I'm sure he or she is happy
Graze him if you can, small meals through the entire day will help him gain weight. He's been through a lot. Food and TLC will make him fat and sassy in no time :wave3:

That's what I'm doing. He's getting about 5-6 small meals a day.
He's already putting on weight.
I'll get a good picture of him as soon as I'm well enough to get it.
I've been in bed for 5 days with whatever virus this is. Poor baby just looks at me like "Oh no, not again". lol
I'm pretty sure I cracked a rib coughing so I will be going to the doctor soon to find out if my lung is safe.
Til then, I have an Onsa that won't leave my side.

I hope you feel better soon, kashmir64 kashmir64 ! (And I hope you just strained a rib muscle rather than fracturing: I once pulled a muscle and the doctor said the pain's the same as a break during the days. I could barely move. It's awful!)

Lots of small meals is the way to go for many cats!

He might have been stressed out from the change in his life, and now that he's comfortable he'll gain enough weight that you'll start a diet thread for him soon.
When I'm feeling off Baby Girl is my little lap cat and foot warmer, it's really cute and she seems to feel this is very important work she's doing.
People who think cats aren't loyal or loving or intuitive are really kind of dense aren't they :D

Thanks both of you. I'm sure I'll be up and about soon. I cracked a rib once when I was 19 and had pneumonia. This feels about the same, but that time it was a hanging rib and the doctor was not concerned. This one is much higher. Either I broke a rib, or I broke a boob. Onsa left, so Samai has taken up guard duty. I now have no feeling in my legs. lol

If you live near an Aldi, give their canned cat food a try, cheaper than FF. I rotate between the two, both cats always lick their bowls
