I definitely feed him enough food and he is a healthy weight. He drinks normal amounds of water as well. But everytime I make food or sit down to eat he's all up in my business sticking his face on my plate. I never ever give him any "human food" while I'm eating because I don't want him to development bad habits but he still won't let me eat in peace! Sometimes I have to keep him in a separate room so I can eat without him jumping on my lap. What can I do about this? Is this normal cat behavior?

Bruja999 Bruja999 : Hello and welcome to TCS. How old is your cat? How long have you had him? Was he ever a stray?

How old is this cat? When mine was a kitten, turning on a wand spinning toy was the only way I could eat. She wanted attention all the time.

Like other animals, a cat learns about the world through their nose. If he’s not grabbing food off the counter, or into the garbage, he’s probably just curious about what you’re eating. Don’t allow him to pester you while you’re eating though. Give a firm “no” and push him away. He needs to know that’s not acceptable.

My cat is rarely interested in what I’m eating, but occasionally, especially if it’s not something she’s smelled much, she will be curious. After I’m done, I’ll let her sniff the plate. She’s not interested in eating it, she just wants a good whiff.

Could be a variation of "the other cat's food has to be better because it's not mine! Yet."?

Hmmmmm every cat has a favorite people food. One cat adored ham and every time we baked a Christmas ham or cooked anything with ham, she would just wait in the kitchen for it to come out.....then she would beg like no tomorrow! One of the kittens seems especially partial to sweet potatoes. Another kitten loves any and all cheese. I had a cat that loved tortia chips, but hated all other chips. One cat even ate broccoli.

If I had to guess I would say your cat is part curious and part begging. In my experience bottle babies eat more people food. I just gently push my kitten's head away from my plate & say no, when he gets all sniffy. I do let him try my food if it is onion/garlic/chocolate in it..... however I have to give it to him. He is not allowed to steal it.

I really hope that is a typo, especially the part about feeding chocolate, since all three are poisonous.

Anyhow, my cat likes to sniff any food my wife eats, but doesn't really want to eat it, except the runny yolk when sh makes soft boiled eggs, or chicken.
