No chip doesn't necessarily mean no owners. She could have escaped her house (as others have mentioned), and also ditched her collar, if she had one on. She could still have a family or human worried and very much looking for her.

Aren't you still going to try to alert your neighborhood with fliers? I think some efforts should be made to at least try to find a worried owner, by both you and the vet or vet's receptionist, and not assume she belongs to no one. You only found her last night, right?
We have an understanding that if a responsible owner shows up we will return the kitten to the owner. That said, there is no way I was going to pass up a good home. They are too few.

I'm not sure you answered my question, but I hope so. That is, you'll be leaving breadcrumbs of information around the neighborhood (fliers, or whatnot), so that if there is a responsible, worried owner who had a possibly wily, mischievous kitten who could have just slipped out an open window or door by mistake, can know where to try to find their loved one -- at the home of this vet receptionist?

She is a pretty girl! Sweet little face!
Its wonderful that she was adopted by a good person, but yeah, I agree, someone could be missing this little girl. Definitely continue actively looking. Thats good the receptionist understands that. So a better way to put it is that shes "fostering" her until / if her family is found, & if not after some time, then she has a good home. :)

Please try to find her owners, I myself didn't chip my cats for years I reasoned that they never went outside anyways. But I don't feel that way anymore after my chipped dog wss never found after being stolen. Give her a chance to get home she might belong to an child.
