I noticed yesterday that Manny's mane was wet which, at first, I just attributed to him drinking out of the fountain. His mane has grown out since his last grooming and it's pretty normal for him to get it wet when drinking. Then, I started noticing what looked like drops of water in odd places on the carpet so, I started paying closer attention to him and he appears to be drooling quiet a bit.

He went to sleep beside me on the couch and when he woke up and moved I noticed a damp spot where his mouth was. This seems to be happening mostly when he sleeps or is dozing but, I have noticed like a drop of saliva hanging from his chin. It doesn't seem slimy or anything. It's odorless and looks just like water. I've noticed no difference in behavior, eating, drinking or, litter box habits. He does seem to be a little stuffy after a nap.

I've already done some research on the internet and seems it could be a number of things. I suspect an allergy of some sort. Nothing has changed in his diet other than I did change his dry food. It's the exact same brand just a different flavor. He has always been prone to sneezing but not what I would call excessive. I have mentioned this to my vet and they didn't seem overly concerned. The litter I have been using is quiet dusty and have been planning to go to a dust free litter as soon as I used up what was left of what I had which, I just used up last week. The next change will be dust free.

Just wondering if anyone has run across this and, if it could be a sign of something serious. As I am writing this he is sleeping deeply on a comforter 4 ft. away. No funny noises, his breathing isn't labored and, he seems to be sleeping peacefully.

Forgot to mention one thing. I have had cat grass around for him the last few weeks. I don't always keep it around but, he has had it before and it didn't seem to have this effect. He eats grass when we go outside for walks. During the winter months I keep it around more since there' not as much for him to eat in the winter outside.

Hi. How old is Manny? If the drooling has just recently started then it could be allergy related, and even perhaps because of some different ingredient in the food that you are using that is tied to the new flavor.

And, since Manny has displayed occasional symptoms similar with respiratory issues - with the sneezing and the stuffiness after waking up, the drooling could be an escalation of whatever respiratory issue he might be having. If his nose is somewhat stuffed up, then he might be sleeping with his mouth open and that might be what is causing the drooling.

Drooling is also a common sign of some dental issues that might just be starting.

It all could be tied to dusty litter, but any time an allergy appears to be getting worse, it is probably causing some additional issues that would need to be looked at.

I personally can't connect the grass with the drooling, but maybe some other members on this site would have some ideas about that.

FeebysOwner FeebysOwner Manny turned 3 in September of last year so, he's about 3 1/2. He had a dental cleaning back in june or july for tarter build up and they said his teeth looked great and no cavity's. Doesn't mean it can be ruled out but, from the way he's eating and crunching on kibble I don't think it's an issue. I think I'm going to go ahead and dump the litter and go with an unscented dust free and see what happens as well as keeping a close eye on him.

Some cats drool when they are happy and content, even when they are sleeping. It's normal. If your cat is otherwise fine, I wouldn't worry about the drooling.

My cat is a drooler! She's 4 and when she wants love and I'm rubbing her tummy she drips like a faucet. The vet checked her out, all good and said some cats when they are super content and relaxed just drool and it's nothing to be worried about. If your vet checks everything out then I'd say you just have a happy, content kitty. Drooling while sleeping is normal too - my girl always leaves a drool mark where she's been sleeping.

Just wanted to give an update on Manny. LTS3 LTS3 and C cat princesses I had never heard this before about cats drooling. It's good info to have under your belt for future reference in case I run across it again.

I had never noticed this going on with Manny in the past though. It could have happened but, just not to the extent it was happening this past weekend.

I went ahead and dumped his litter box and rotated the box out with one that had been cleaned thoroughly. I have a couple extra boxes and do that every so often. I had been using Tidy Cats Instant Action Clumping. I went to Walmart and picked up the only 100% dust free they had which was Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal Multi Cat. It didn't say on the box if it was fragrance free but it did seem to have a very light scent to it. Nowhere near as bad as the Tidy Cat though. By the next morning his drooling had all but stopped and by the time I got home that night it had cleared up and hasn't happened since. I did change the water in his fountain just in case. I hadn't cleaned it out in a few weeks but, it's filtered and I add water to it from a zero water pitcher so I don't think that was it.

I don't know if it was just a coincidence that he cleared up almost instantly after changing his litter or if what was going on was just cleared up and had run it's course on it's own. Maybe a combination of the two. He does seem to be sneezing less since the change and, he seemed to be more feisty so, it may have affected him more than I thought.

At this point I think I will try some different litters that are dust AND fragrance free and see if the sneezing completely stops. Yesterday was the first day I was home with him all day and I didn't hear him sneeze all day so, I think the old litter was irritating him to some degree.

As always, thanks for the responses!
