My Allie Cat, at the age of 16 crossed the Rainbow Bridge tonight at the cancer specialist group where I'd been taking her since last May. I've been posting about her on this board since I got her when she was a kitten. She was a beautiful Maine Coon mix. She was my sweet, fiesty, sometimes cranky, but usually playful, goofy, chatty little Purrball.

I wish I could have had a couple more years with her. But I'm so grateful for the 16 years I had. I'm grateful for the support of friends and strangers who offered kind words and helped me out when she had her spleen removed last year, and I'm grateful for the vets who went above and beyond to give us extra time together.

Good night, my little love.

Emile

I pray everyday when I open this forum that no new post would be coming in, but I guess this is a sad reality in our life as pet owners.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was beautiful, and her beauty will forever shine in your heart and provide you with smiles and warmth in the years to come. You loved her, kept her safe, spoiled her. That is all that matters. 16 years is a long time for some, but too short for us. Yet, you have given her the best life possible.

My prayers for you. Hang in there.

It seems you went beyond the average committment that many pet owners go, you can't have any regret.
The time we are allowed with our furry friends is never enough, if it were 50 years we would have liked 2 years more... And I know what you mean, because I feel the same.

RIP Allie, your mom loved you so much, this is something that many cats won't ever know in their life.

16 years is a good, long life. Living to eighteen or twenty is truly rare, like living over a hundred for a human. Not unheard of, but so rare. But no matter how much time we have, it is never enough.
You were so very blessed to have shared yoru lives for sixteen wonderful years. She was so blessed for your love and the care you gave her, and for finding the strength in your love to let her go before the suffering took over her life. Antonio is right, you did so much for her, much more than most would have taken on. It gave you a little more time, time to love each other and to try to prepare for teh heartache. But no matter how much we know, how much we prepare, when the time comes it is a blow to our hearts and takes something from our lives that can never be replaced. Time is the only things that softens this blow, it takes a long time to heal a broken heart.
Know that she will always be close by, a love like that does not die, it is a part of you and is eternal because it is spiritual. She will forever be as close as your thoughts and prayers, use them to bring comfort from your beautiful memories. Try not to dwell on her end, the life is so much more important and it is as she would want for the one she loves so very much. Do not let her death be more imporatnt than her life, it can never be. Bring her peace by finding your own.....
My heart goes out to you. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. take care of yourself, just as you cared for that sweet girl, you will beblessed for what you have done in her life, for loving her so much.
RIP beautiful Allie. you will never be forgotten, you will forever have a secure place in a loving heart. May the good Lord bless and keep you, until you meet again!

I am sorry you lost your beautiful little girl, but she had a wonderful life with you, you obviously loved her and took great care of her and she knows it and thanks you for it, and you will see her again someday and it will be wonderful.

Thank you for your moving words of comfort, everyone. It was very hard to wake up and not have her here because I live in a studio apartment, and she's always just been there, waiting for a cuddle, purring all along. She would purr if I just smiled at her. And knowing she's not just in the hospital, but that she won't ever be coming home again is really hard to take.

My calico, Zora, is more independent, and she often sleeps on top of my towels in the bathroom. So it'll be an adjustment to have a less snuggly cat around. I think my relationship with her will change, though, as she seems to be more affectionate over the last few days. One thing that makes me smile is that Zora picked up Allie's habit for purring when she saw that it got my attention, and she's sitting next to my computer, purring right now.

Whenever we lose a pet, especially the way you lost Allie, it is as though we lose a piece of ourselves too. Remember, though, that a piece of Allie will remain with you always, locked away in your memory. Think about the good times you had, the 16 years that Allie brightened your life, and cherish every moment you had together.

Rest you gentle, Allie, dream you deep. You walk in someone's heart forever.

Sixteen beautiful years to share your lives and your love! But where there is love, eternity is not long enough, is it? I will tell you this, love never dies. It only changes form and continues on, still Love. Love abides, and Allie is with you still. Love abides, always, forever, Love abides.

I have so much love and memories of pets lost decades ago and this has never faded. Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 is 100% right.
Since love only changes form, remember to speak of her with "I love her" not "I loved her", as if in the past...the physical part of us moves on but that love doesn't.
I remember a cat I had as a kid that reminds me of one I have now.....tiny, sassy, feisty, rules the entire house and plays me like a deck of cards to get what she wants. I don't even know how many decades that cat has been gone for sure but I still love that little girl like she is right here.

Emile, I'm with you. So sorry about Allie... so many years together, it is hard, very hard...
About Zora, she is greiving also, and that is why she is more affectionate with you. She needs confort as you do. That is very sweet. My cat Maia is doing the same thing now that Teo died a month ago. She is very close to my husband and me, and taking a different roll in the pack as our only cat. She is helping me a lot in this process. I hope Zora and you can start a new chapter together with snuggles an all. Hugs to you both <3
