OH -another thing that works for me are these treats from Inaba - Ciao
They have about 6 flavors. I take the pill and make a little meat ball with the piece I break off and then give just other plain pieces on a plate, she gobbles it right up, never knows she's having her medicine. Works like a charm every time! Might be worth a shot.

Aww, sweet, soft face. :lovecat2:
Sounds like despite all the packing caios, he's doing pretty good. (Knock on wood;) )
I hated the tape roll when packing too. It is just so loud! Im sure thats why he hates it.
Maybe using the room spray before using the tape will help?? ....a little??
When moved, I had movers, & they also took their roll of shrink wrap & wrapped it around everything. It was super loud echoing in the empty apt. Poor Sammie was super stressed that day. Kept her safe in my room w/ door shut, so she could hear it, but didn't know what was going on, not seeing it.
She was so stressed that later after all was done, (& had our room set up over at my parents, ready for her), When I let her out of the room, ready to take her over to my parents, even though her litter box was in the room she had been in, she went looking for it in the kitchen corner where it usually was, & then pooped on the kitchen floor in front of the fridge. :(
Poor baby definitely had her share of gabapentin that day!
I hope things continue to go as smoothly as possible for you guys.

I hope you don't plan on trying to get the neighbor to get rid of her little dog. People get just as attached to their dogs as their cats. If you can find suggestions to help calm the little dog, her owner will probably be grateful. No one wants their pet to be upset. His barking is no different from Geoffrey's hiding. Both as signs of fear. That ma give you good common ground so you can help each other. Remember that's the way we all made friends when we were innocent children.

I would never even think of the suggestion of the neighbor getting rid of her dog..

The dog is just as much a support animal, as Geoffrey is to me... I just want the dog to stop barking..

From what I understand, it is really the only dog in the building which constantly barks when people walk by.. My friend, who goes walking, daily, in the building--told me..

I heard that the owner is a nice elderly lady. so... We will see how things go....

I guess the dog is just going to have to get used to me, as it did the last person who lived in there.

and me, him.....

But this, too, is a gift. You know so much now about how to help calm animals, I think that is why you are getting the apartment next to the little guy. Small dogs are often fearful because they know they are small. Many try to act big to make up for it. When they are the only care takers of someone who is fragile, it's a bit frightening for them. When someone walks down the hall, little one is terrified he's going to have to fight to protect his mom, but he's willing to do so. He barks hoping that bluff will work.

Once you make friends with him - treats are good. Ask what his favorite ones are. Many dogs have delicate tummies, just like cats. Once he knows you have treats and knows where you live - you should ask his mom to walk him from his apartment to yours so he'll know where you are. (You might put Geoffrey in his carrier in a closet for these early visits.) Yes, I know the thought of little one visiting when Geoffrey is still unsettled seems WRONG, but it's not. It's the fastest way to show little puppy that you are the one next door so he doesn't have to bark.

I've had several dogs. When one was only 6 months old a very large German Shepherd moved in down the street. He used to drag his boy and his dad down the street on walks. He obeyed his mom completely. When my puppy saw she ran to get back in the house. All he'd done was look at her. I bought him a cow shank bone and gave it to him when he was out with his mom. She thanked us. She didn't let him come play -- he was huge, but he didn't scare my pup after that. He just walked by with a wink and a nod.

Almost forgot. Hold the treats in your hands before you give them to him. They work best for friendship if they smell like you, not the factory.

OMG.. just brushed Geoffrey.. He is having a blast--literally.. he is chasing the ball over the place, jumping chasing, hunting it.. and we played really hard this morning, with Da Bird... now he took a different ball., and cries when he needs help with it..so funny... He is a 'freshie" this morning.. sniffing the floor, from the strangers, yesterday..
"Freshie" is good, very good! It sounds like he's feeling his oats and enjoying his playtime. Little by little he's coming out of his shell and he has you to thank for that. :hugs:

All the best of luck with packing and your move. :crossfingers: i know it will be somewhat stressful for G but once you're settled in the new apartment he will acclimate.

I introduced myself to my new next door neighbor, the one with the dog.. It looks like a poodle mix.. He is 11 years old, with skin allergies.. I feel bad for him.. He has scabs, sores all over his body.. He just got shaved..

He seems hyper. His owner seems 'clueless".. I asked if he was from allergies.. She said she did not know!! "It could be the food I feed him; I don't know.. but he is on allergy meds.."....

His owner is really clueless and at least late 70 year old range.

I told her that I have a cat.. She said her dog, 'loves' cats... I said my cat is very frightened.. She insisted that her dog ONLY barks when the neighbor across the hall goes in and out--because he brings the dog 'treats'--Milk Bone biscuits.. seriously..

I told her that is not true, as he barks each time I walk by and every time, my friends come to visit me....She acted shocked.. I also said that I can hear him though the bedroom door...

I heard, from a friend: Yesterday, this dog, went after one of the tenants, in the lobby.

The tenant went over to pet him, He snapped strongly.. The tenant fainted from the experience. And there have been many complaints about this dog... interesting...
They had to call the EMT's because they did not know what was happening to the tenant.. The owner was 'clueless'--denial...

Let's face it: at 11 years old, this dog is not going to change.. especially when his owner is clueless....

I am not going to go the 'treat route' since that seems to set him off, barking for them.. I am going to see what happens in the meantime...

Dogs can change at any age with patience. But it will be difficult, perhaps impossible if the owner can't track long enough to realize what is happening. A large number of people her age are on top of things, but some, even some decades younger suffer from memory problems.

Aww, sweet boy looking out the window.
Hopefully he will be intreiged with the beach veiw & love it.

Damn, that sucks about the neighbor & dog.
Yes, its amazing on how many pet owners are clueless & dont even make any effort to figure it out. Just lazy, too expensive, whatever reason, & just let the vet & meds deal with it. Especially sad with something like allergies, something that with luck, wouldn't be too hard to figure out w/ the vets help. That is frustrating!
I hate to say it, but maybe w/ all the complaints & if you add to it, something will have to be done.......

Thinking of you guys!
Sending big hugs!!!!!!!! XO

Hi Cindy, I was just checking my email and saw "top rated litter boxes" on Wayfair.
I thought I'd let you know, because there are some good prices on the box styles that the others were showing you. It says the sale is for 2 days, if you get time to check it out Im sure you'd find a good deal. ;)
I hope all is going well & it hasn't been too, too crazy.

Oh, I just saw the one with the fake plant on top & its only 70.99. I *think it was more on another site?? But there are others for less as well.
Here ya go! :)

Well, WE moved.. just about completely, yesterday..

I kept Geoffrey closed off in my bedroom, with his litter box, food water, a toys..

I had used a box as a barricade to under my bed.. Movers needed to take it. Replaced it with a trash can.. sure enough, Geoffrey moved the trash can, and climbed under bed.. At that point, I ripped the barriers down, and dumped them.--cardboard.

I worked all day in new place.. about 90% complete.. still have lots of boxes with no place to put things.. desk is in living area..

Nothing fits!! all oversized furniture.. and mismatched.. I do not like it..

I guess it is a work in progress.. and long progress.. I cannot afford to buy new, smaller furniture for the living area..

Got Geoffrey around 2:30pm... He was terrified.. The winds and their gusts were so incredibly strong that they were knocking down telephone poles, trees, causing power outages..

My old neighbor called, telling me to stay where I am, as their power just went out..
I said I have to get my cat...

That meant a litter box, a box of litter, some food from freezer for me.. and then Geoffrey...

I was planning on using the elevator.. but now, I could not.. I could not stay in there, not much furniture, and Geoffrey would be frightened.. who knew when the power would go back on... my lanterns were in the new place..

I needed help.. I needed a strong guy. The only one I could think of was the new maintenance guy.. We are not supposed to knock on his door, but this was different.. a favor, not work related..

He was happy to help me.. I offered to pay him, he said No Way... He also thought I was moving sooner than planned. I told him, I still had to get rid of the old furniture..and that I have someone coming in next week to junk it..

Gregg said not to worry about it.. he will do it, himself.. a tiny bit at a time.. I was shocked...

The new property manager wanted to do a 'showing', yesterday afternoon, and said the same thing.. not to bother with getting someone to junk the furniture.

I asked him if he someone disabled, or elderly, who would want an power lift chair, in good condition. He said he probably did.. and he would take care of donating it for me... WOW...

Geoffrey has now stopped crying.. he is still pacing, exploring, smelling.. not eating.. nothing.. no water either..

He is back to Pudding Poops.. has to be from stress.. nothing else has changed..

Hoping I do not have to give him the flag,, he can easily hide under my bed, and I cannot get him.. no way.. the space is too small.. yet, he slinks his way down under it.. automatically.. sigh..

He is covering up his food.. and it is the same mix..and yelling at me.. He is telling me that my new recliner stinks.. I agreed..

He is kidnfo fascinated by the beach traffic, and the seagulls, and waves..periodically, he goes over to look out.. He did jump on his cat tree once.. but the smells in here.. even with my old furniture, his rugs, his tunnel, scratching curve.. his cardboard scratches, he is still frightened...

I sprayed some of Jackson Galaxy's trauma around here, yesterday.. Have to do it again today..

Comcast is coming in this morning.. I am going to miss my special Tuesday mass, because I am really exhausted, and I do not want to leave Geoffrey, right now.. I will later.. when I runout.. after Comcast leaves...

Listening to the radio... who knows where G is.. each time I am about to check on him, he comes to me... yes, again, he is following me to the bathroom, where his litter box is..
TMI, but it is funny.. this morning, we both used our toilets at the same time!!!

Oh, I broke a blind last night. I was closing it, had a tuff time, then I wanted to open it to see something.. it did not open, and one blind was twisted. I tried to untwist, and it broke off.. so new blind for that window.. and then the bedroom window is going to go, also... sigh...

First day in.. and broke 2 things.. the blind and a brand new floor lamp that I was moving.. glass shade, light bulb.. all over the rug.. as I was picking it up, I stabbed my finger with a shard. It hit a vein.. it was bleeding profusely.. dripped on the rug, kitchen floor.. Only found one bandage.. could not remember where I put my first aid box... after it stopped and things were cleaned up, I found the box.. sigh
