Username

I need to change my username because I have accidentally used my real name and I would rather people do not know my real name.

You should be able to change it. At the top right corner of the TCS web site is your name followed by Inbox and Alerts. Click on your name to bring up the option box. Then click on Change Username.

If I'm not wrong, you can't do that. The only option is just change the capitalization and you can only do that once a day.

This was brought up during the transition period of Site Migration from the old platform to the new platform.

I did that same thing on another site but can't remember how I changed it. I just wanted you to know you weren't alone! If you don't understand the instructions, all the mentors, staff members, and forum helpers are all great for helping, so maybe find one, click on their avatar (picture) and it will bring up a box that says "start a conversation" somewhere in the box. Click on that, write privately what you want, then click on start a conversation at the bottom when you are done.I'm sure they would be more than happy to help you. Maybe there is somewhere you can just cancel everything and start over! PS I am not computer savvy at all, so I know instructions can be hard to decipher too, people get used to doing something and think nothing of it,so don't even realize that people like me find following their instructions is like deciphering a foreign language you have never heard of!

When I look at that option, it says I can change my username to something else, not just change the capitalization:

I believe that tabbytom is correct. I think I also remember recently that Anne changed someone's user name for them for the exact same reason as the OP's request.

Send Anne , the site owner a message explaining why you want to change it and what you would like to change it to. Click on her name that I just posted in the last sentence and it should give you the option to "start a conversation" with her.

It only lets you change the capitalization. I've tried it out.

Yes, since you have a good reason and you're a brand new member, this isn't a problem at all. Shoot me a PM and let me know which username you prefer (run a search first to see if it's available). Welcome to TCS!
