Seething quietly

Maybe not the right forum as he is neither a stray nor a feral but...

I put his story when I first joined; a stinky aggressive tom who used to live here, owned by a man a mile away . Aggressive to my cats, noisy, etc etc etrc, Medusa glares.

He had been quiet lately then started howling again. Yesterday I thought it sounded different so went to the door and he was in the doorway of the ruined shed opposite. I spoke quietly and he stayed, No glare, just watched, And I realised he was hungry, very hungry and was limping. ( He may have got a cut paw on the broken window form Storm Erik) . I was holding an open tin of cat food so I tossed a few chunks not wanting to scare him, and he came and ate fast, so I made a feed with cat food and a raw egg and left him eating quietly, neared to me than he has ever been

So although I spoke of HOUSE FULL, .. there are no words to express how I feel re the neighbour who supposedly owns him. And no one will know. Just he will be fed now. Every time he comes, food. Honoured that he came to me at need..

He is very very welcome here now.

Just an Irish farm cat. Little more than the vermin they are expected to clear. And this is the hardest time of year

Nothing I can do re his paw,. Raining hard so walking through wet grass will clean it. He must be getting on in years.

Thank you for doing this. You are his hero.

Always heartbreaking to see animals in dire need, especially those that were previously pets and suddenly neglected/abandoned by owners.

Thanks. He was never a pet. Here in rural Ireland cats are just left to fend for themselves, or fed a little. But this one is safe now . He may be getting some food but in this bitter weather mine need more and so does he. All quiet now ! It was the look in his eyes. no fear, no hositily, just need

Same here where I am. We are in the gulf so when the summer comes I don’t know what will happen to the cats outside. I had a tuxedo cat I was feeding before, one of the many ferals I had. I had to leave for a while for my one month vacation. When I came back, most of the cats were still there, although they really looked dehydrated and thin as a bone. The tuxedo cat was not. Searched everywhere. None. Some said it could have died due to extreme heat, but up to this day I still hope it is safe somewhere. Really heartbreaking.

Maybe put a piece of wood up or something?
I had a feral outside for a year, I was always modifying her shelter!!
Thank you! I just love how you put aside the bad feelings you use to have for this cat and just gave him love!

Well, interesting indeed. I was on the phone to a neighbour as the emergency helicopter was in meaning an urgent hospital admission ( offshore island here) and we mentioned cats. He asked if "that other cat" was still around. Life in a tiny enclosed island community has certain refinements as you cannot fall out .... So I said I was a bit worried and told him te the hunger and the limp. Said " He maybe just forgot to feed him just once.." Tact! Tom was round later that evening but all silent now. Actual cruelty to critters is not tolerated here and they know the care I take and how well I care for and rescue. He even moved the ferry earlier when I was heading off across country to pick up the new ones.. He knows Tom;s keeper since childhood. So last night silence. Was weird! Hopefully all is well .
