Well, I got here, but late! I was all set to post last night, just after midnight, and got caught up in some very minor neighbor drama. Bleh.

SO,

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be, and why?

Easy for me. Morghanna Lyonesse Thomson. "Morghanna" is an alternate spelling of a family name, "Morganna," I just LIKE "Lyonesse," although it is a place name (legendary sunken kingdom), and Thomson is my paternal grandmother's maiden name.

When I was younger I would have liked to change my name, but now I can't think of anything I would like better. I have 2 biblical names that are not that common and my last name is an old English name.

I rather like my name. I don't think I would change it, even if I got married.

I have used a pen name for writing contests, Elizabeth Hunt. Elizabeth because in high school I had a kid who told me I was more an Elizabeth. It seems to be the name people call me if they are going to mess up my name badly (my name is way different from Elizabeth so I don't know why they go there, I get more variations on my name most of the time but sometimes do I get Elizabeth). Hunt is a distant ancestors name and easy for people to pronounce compared to my last name.

I used to hate my name because I thought it just plain and boring. I like it fine now, but honestly, I rarely ever hear it anymore, so I don't think about it much. Since having kids, I feel a bit like Smeagol here when someone uses my given name:

I've always liked gender neutral names like Alex, Taylor, etc. So I would probably choose something like that (interesting, neither of my kids have gender neutral names).

When I was younger, and had just moved to a new school district, I was teased mercilessly over my name and hated it as a result. As I got older, and understood that I was named for my father's younger brother, killed in WWII, I came to not only accept it, but be proud of it; so no, I wouldn't change a thing.

My name is Alyssa and I've always felt it sounded childish. I don't see myself as anything but an Alyssa, but if I had to change it, I'd probably go for a very feminine formal name that has a unisex nickname like Josephine, Thomasina, Louisa, or Georgia. I would also consider Eva because it was my great grandma's name and I also think it's beautiful.

I've never liked my first name in spite of the fact that my parents told me a very famous movie star of the era had the same name. Not sure what I would change it to though. I'll have to give it some thought.

Ugh I have a hard enough time coming up with names for cats!

Never liked my name- Amy. It was to offset the long Polish last name. My mom wanted something easy but I wouldn't have minded something a bit more exotic. Not to mention there were way too many Amys in school.

  1. Dzień dobry Amy! I love my fellow Poles :salam: What's up, peeps?
  2. Amy was the name of my first childhood best friend so I hold your name dear to my heart :hugs:
  3. Every Amy I've ever met has been honest, kind and loyal as the day is long. I'm willing to bet the people who know you would agree with this!

  4. Amy means "beloved" :hearthrob::redheartpump::hearthrob: ... how lovely is that?

Gender-neutral can be a pain because people never know which you are and they inevitably guess wrong.

I've always gone by Jackie. I had a very female friend named in error Michael Lee. We both got draft notices.

I loathe my given first name, Nina, always mispronounced NEEna, while I say NIGHna. Either way, it was my mother's name and it suited her just fine. I never used it. Then I signed up for Medicare. They refused to use Jacqueline T. and insisted on Nina Jacqueline. Now every time I go to the doctor or anywhere medically-related, I get called NEEna. It drives me buggy. For my birthday my wonderful hubby gave me the papers for a formal name change. Now we have to get a copy of my birth certificate and a set of fingerprints so I can have the change made. No more Nina! I'm 72 years old and I'm more than ready to be free of that name.

Yes, another fellow Pole!!

When I was younger, I never cared for my name.. either the real name or the nickname..

Now, it is just 'me'... I only go by my given name for business. I usually use my shortened nickname...

My middle name I absolutely hated. That name came from my maternal grandmother.
It is an old name.. not used much..

My last name is very short.. It is the original Polish name.. not shortened at all..
If you can spell it, you cannot pronounce it correctly...

Ok --no more hijacking...

I do like the name Sarah.. always have...

Growing up, I knew a girl named Michael (not an error), which isn't really a gender neutral name. Her middle name is Elizabeth, but she goes by Michael.

My name is Emily. It's just ok... there are a lot of younger girls named Emily since it seemed to become really popular in the 90s/early 2000s. I just never felt like it suited me.

My maternal grandmother was Polish and I've recently had a DNA test done and have been diving into the family tree on Ancestry. Some of the Polish surnames are unreal. :eek2:

One of the Polish surnames in the family is Wicz. I'm assuming it's pronounced Wiz.

I never really had an issue with Karen, other than there were 5 other Karen's in class with me at school. I've never liked my middle name of Mary.
