This tip will be counterproductive for the point of this thread, but you could still post the fails after.
If you have an iOS device like an iPhone or iPad, you can hold the photo button down and it will take “burst pictures” you can hold it down as long as you want and can get hundreds of pictures taken really quickly.
Keep in mind this takes up a lot of space as each picture is huge, but if you’re trying to capture a cat jumping, out of the 100 pictures you would for example have 30 that are great.
If my explanation makes no sense, let me know and I will try a different approach.
You could also do slow-mo to capture the jumps and then make a gif with them.
