I once had all the symptoms of strep - including a rash, which I've never gotten with strep before - but had a negative test. They gave me the antibiotics anyway and it cleared up. Coincidence, maybe. But they said it could just have been a false negative and if I didn't get better, it was probably mono.
On a related note, John started throwing up a couple hours after he got home from work last night. I started this morning. So far, Aedan is fine and this is EXACTLY why I'm still breastfeeding.

It doesn't feel exactly like it felt the last time I had strep as an adult, but I was hoping it would be something easy to take care of.

I guess for now it's pain pills and wait and see.

Hehe, I realize that us Northerners are crazy. The high temp today was, I think, 4 degrees. I'm sure it's back down to zero by now. I'm shopping in Sioux Falls, and I suddenly realized that most people are wearing hoodies or light jackets. Nobody is bundled up, or wearing hats/gloves/etc. Granted, the wind isn't blowing, and that makes a big difference. But still. We're crazy, you betcha :D.

I had catscratch fever complete with 3 days in the hospital!!!! My mom had a feral kitten and she got sick but no hospital stay, her cat made us both sick. This was when TED NUGGENT had the song too!!!
That's funny. But you do know that the song had nothing to do with a cat...right?

Okay, enough whining. I'm going to go back to my cold beverages and wasting time on youtube and here.
Have you ever watched Nuke's Top 5? I think he's my favorite youtuber, but I've been watching a lot of Matthew Santoro lately, he's real good also.

I don't believe I've seen either of them! I'll have to check them out.

Lari Lari , here are things that I try when my throat is raw: gargle with warm salt water, gargle with water half and half with peroxide, drink hot lemonade with honey, drink hot tea with lemon and honey, drink hot water with a shot of rum and honey. The last one was the favorite drink of sailors when they crossed the oceans in the time of sailing ships, it will make you warm, soothe your throat and if you put a lot of rum into the hot water it will put you to sleep and you'll get a good night's rest which you will need when you feel so bad.

segelkatt segelkatt - thanks for the suggestions! Oddly, it's more tender when I touch it from the outside than with swallowing, per se, but it's a bit raw there, too, and I'll take what I can get.

My Grandma used to make me a hot toddy when I was younger for a sore throat. Hot water, honey and rum. (she left out the lemon because I detest them). It really soothed it.
Or, I was so drunk I didn't notice it hurting.

I'm snowed in as well with more to come. Wind chills are predicted to be around minus 15 by tonight. Ohio has such extremes. So many summer days in the 90s with dreadful humidity and winter days like today.

Oh well, I have Chocolate Satin Pie so things aren't so things aren't so bad.

The kindness of total strangers with the GOV'T shutdown. We have a local family pharmacy that is helping out furloughed govt employees to get their medicines at no cost, penalties. Those raising $$ to help strangers out and collecting food for families in need as well as restaurants that are providing a meal at no cost! Thank you and bless you and your families

Yesterday, The local ASPCA had an event for the furloughed government employees: supplying pet food, supplies for them...

Wish I had known about this sooner.. I would have donated a ton...

ALICIA88 I had stepthroat at 17 and have NEVER forgotten the severe pain!! I looked like I did when I went through CHEMO for breast cancer, gray skin and sunken in cheeks and I lost 25lbs in less than 2 weeks! My mother had tears running down her cheeks. I even got so desperate that I gargled with 50/50 peroxide water and it calmed the SEVERE THROAT PAIN because even swallowing water it's so very very painful that the thought of even using mouthwash make you want to pass out.:runaround:

I've gotten strep many, many times but never that bad. I was getting strep and tonsilitis back to back as a small child then they removed my tonsils when I was 5 - maybe 6? After that, I started getting strep once a year, like clockwork.
