I am such a blonde. Tomorrow is Aedan's first birthday. Took him to great grandma so we could go birthday shopping for him. Got to Wal*Mart and I automatically looked in the back seat to get him out. Saw an empty car seat and my heart skipped a beat and then I was like, "Oh . . . yeah . . . never mind." And then I felt dumb.

When I was working we worked on Saturday a lot. One man always took his baby to childcare before work and used the carpool lane as there were two live bodies in the car. That Saturday he was cruising along on the freeway in the carpool lane and was stopped by a cop for being alone in the car. He pointed to the backseat and said "baby in backseat". Cop looked again and said 'No baby there". That's when he discovered that baby was at home since it was Saturday and mommy was watching baby and he was a long way from the direct route from home to work, childcare was out of the way from the direct route. Cop was understanding and did not give him a ticket but he was late for work and had to explain why. Everybody had a good laugh at his expense but we all understood because we have done the same thing, our cars were on automatic pilot at one time or another.
Remember there is no such thing as a dumb blonde so stop beating yourself up.

I am about ready to toss in the towel on the so-called human race. In the local news lately was a story about how 2 dogs were beaten, burned, and put in trash bags and dumped by the side of the road. What is it with alleged people like that? The only good to come out, to date, is that over $6000 has been put up as a reward towards finding the lowlife(s) responsible. As far as I am concerned, hanging is too good for whoever did it.

I saw a story on the news a few weeks ago about a guy who cut off his dogs front legs because he wouldn't stop digging in the yard. To say I felt disgusted is an understatement. I don't know if any words in the English language can accurately describe how I felt in that very moment.

Humans are more selfish and impatient than ever and it's scary. I lost all faith in humanity when I was the GoFundMe for Trump's wall.

I'd like to see how far this mindset and attitude will take us in the future.

I think there's more attention to animal cruelty now, but I don't think it's more common. I think it used to be legal and very few people cared anyway :/. Just read about what Romney's kid did to some poor stray dog. And I won't tell you what my uncle used to do to stray and unwanted dogs. But nobody cared back then.

There was a LOT of child abuse back then too.

Years ago, someone- I don't know who- coined the term 'disposable society', only then they were talking about appliances and such. From there we went to spouses, and have made the jump to kids and pets. It seems that there is no intrinsic value on anything any more. More is the pity.

Easy divorce is THE most important thing to protect women from abusive spouses. The time before no-fault divorce was pretty much slavery for women.
Abuse is one thing but what I am referring to is when one spouse gets 'tired' of the other and wants a divorce for nothing more than convenience' sake, or to chase after some shiny new toy.

That may be better than sticking out a miserable loveless marriage.

Over 20 million animals were killed in animal shelters in the '70s, which is when they started counting. The numbers were, according to shelter workers, even higher in the '50s, although nobody kept track. So when did this "disposable" attitude start?

Huh. Even though many millions of animals were killed in shelters in the '50s? And I would guess almost everybody drowned kittens and puppies. What do you think changed in the '60s, in terms of "disposable" pets?

Anyway. The whole fact that we're outraged when someone abuses an animal means we're getting better. The kill rate in shelters is "only" around 3 million now---yes, even one is a tragedy but that's definitely a big improvement! Some humans have always been cruel to animals but we're improving, even if it's too slow for our taste.

I'm referring to disposable people.
