Does anyone have an idea of what I can use under the litter box? This needs to be something that will fit into the corner snuggly and be able to be waterproof. My old cat is missing the box! The solids are easy enought to clean up, but not the liquid! I can't find a boot tray or anything the size I need....but wonder are there other things that will work? Do any of you facce the same dilemma? Help! Please!

Hi. I am not sure exactly what is going on with your situation. But, I can tell you that with Feeby, I have had to resort to a washable bath mat that I cut to the size of a washable rug that is placed over the bath mat. I've placed this combo at the just underneath the base of the entry way to the litter box. She sometimes pees over the top of the litterbox, hence the reason for the set-up.

But, if this a new event - you might want to check to see if your guy has a urinary tract infection.

Any other information you can give us about what is going on?

As FeebysOwner said best to check for uti first then, or as well,
because sometimes they get old and need a little extra

I used a rubber mat the sort you put in the shower to keep from slipping. However, I think it would work better if you measure your space then go to Home Depot/ Lowes /Ace and buy a storage box to fit your space. I'm thinking of the under the bed kind. You could put the litter box inside it.

If kit is peeing over the top of the litter box then get a larger one with high sides. Go to Amazon and put plastic storage containers in the search and look at what they have. If kit can't climb, you can cut an opening in the front to let him inside.

Try puppy pads. You can tape them together to make a larger sheet to fit into the space. Similar to that, there are large disposable bed protection pads for people.

We've never used the puppy pads. They must be made to keep the pee from soaking through. Does that part actually work well?

Puppy pads have a plastic backing to keep liquids from soaking through. A tarp could be placed under the pad as a back up.

Tarp idea might be something to consider here....hadn't thought of that! (That's why I asked this group! Thank you!) Kitty is getting older, and her pudginess doesn't help either..but she misses the box. She could no longer get into the covered box, so I had to get a lower sided open box for her. She gets in ok, but misses the edge....most often when she pees! The box is in a corner...with wood baseboard...I want to protect the baseboard for the liquid and the smell that it will retain even after cleaning. I use newspaper, but have to constantly change and re wash...I don't subscribe to any newspapers and I can't keep up with the demand by using the freebie flyers that come in the mail!!!! I've used the bed protection pads before but they didn't really work in the corner to protect the 'splash' onto the baseboard. I'll try the tarp idea....a couple or so of them so I can wash the soiled one, but have a ready one to put down at the time! Newspapers or back to the puppy pad idea can help contain the wet until I clean. Thanks to all who responded...and so quickly too!

Puppy pads work great. I use a ton of them. Well, bed pads---they're bigger. But basically the same thing. I find the best prices on Amazon or from Sam's Club.

If you want a plastic tray, a drip tray that goes under a water heater or washing machine would work. They're pretty shallow and come in a lot of sizes.

What about a high sided litterbox with a low entry point? You can make one out of a large plastic storage bin and then you only have to protect at the entryway.

We had a cat that for ten years started in his box and then walked out during his #2 business. Puppy pee pads worked for us at that point.

Puppy pads are awesome until a cat learns to love shredding them.
Ask me how I know ....

You can put her litter box in a high sided box and cut an entry to the high sided box.

If you use the tarps and they are a good idea, from experience I suggest that you tape them to the wall several feet up from the floor and pay particular attention to the corner turn. You'll need to tape them to both walls or to something to give you a right angle corner. Pee tends to leak through any crack it can find.

'Dog crate tray ' on Amazon. I got a 48" one for under her litter box, helps keep litter from spreading as far too.

Another alternative to protect the floor is to buy a washing machine tray. They are about 30 inches by 30 inches and only about an inch deep but they can keep pee contained until you can clean it up. They can be purchased at hardware stores and cost under $20
