I want to try Tiny Tiger! It looks relatively inexpensive compared to some grain-free brands, and on Chewy it’s 50% off your first case! I usually just feed Friskies Pâtés and sometimes Fancy Feast but the 50% off seems like a great opportunity for a treat!

Caru food brand has Tapioca Starch, Carrots, Potatoes, Apples, and Natural Flavors? Does not look too healthy to me. Cats are obligate carnivores. Does the Caru food have a bad scent? I tried Darwins raw cat food and stop the auto shipment because it was too expensive and the raw meat was very bloody and smelly. I was grossed out, but my cats loved it.

I agree those are not the best ingredients. But other than Rawz and a few other brands, most include some fruits/veggies (I assume for marketing to non-TCS members that think it’s tasty). But these are lower on the ingredient list. The food has over 50%-61% protein, which is on par or better than some more premium brands like Rawz. The tapioca starch adds carbs for sure, and I wish it was not in it.

The smell is actually not bad, it looks and smells like a sweet gruel. What I like best about it is that the ingredients are human grade, and the cats eat it.

I was wondering about that since the 2 top rated, petcurrian and Holistic Select have lots of fruit. Is the fish in it ok to eat every day since its a small amount?

I’m ok trying to feed the fish because Gohan only gets kibble otherwise. I figure it’s healthier than dry. I’m going to see if he likes the Turkey flavor, and I would lean towards that with the Salmon mixed in once in a while.

Yeah, I feed Petcurean Go! and some of the ingredients baffle me. Cottage cheese!?

Adventures in texture!: Tonight, as a "variety meal" (TM lisahe lisahe ), I offered Sylvie some Redbarn Beef Stew. She is generally a pate lover, and when I bought this can I didn't even register the fact that it wasn't pate. But she absolutely loved it and ate the full portion while I was standing there, as opposed to her usual pattern of eating most of it and then coming back later to finish the rest. Maybe her freeze-dried-raw meals have accustomed her to a texture that has a little more oomph to it? I don't know, but I'm glad to have found another food that she will eat happily.

Hurray for variety meals! ;)

These lynx mixes of ours are tough customers!
She refused to eat the rest of the Redbarn. ::sigh:: I just dished out another nugget (make that two nuggets!) of Primal pork so she won't be yowling for food in the middle of the night! At least there's one food she never turns down, knock wood.

This morning I offered Bosie some Catz Finefood with herring and prawn, since he usually goes crazy for anything seafood. He barely ate a third of the bowl (one serving is 3 ounces). Sigh. Back to the drawing board again.

OK, maybe I spoke too soon -- the second helping has not been touched! But maybe that's because I served a "snack" of a couple of Primal pork nuggets this afternoon ...
I mixed in some Weruva Double Dip which has shreds with her usual pate . After that she will not eat her pate unless it has shredded meat mixed in.

I just made some sardine pate for myself in the food processor, and Sylvie was keenly interested in it. If I were a better mom, I would have remembered to set aside a bit of sardine for her before I tainted (from a cat perspective) the whole batch with capers and Dijon mustard. I looked for something fishy I could offer her as a treat and found a can of Hound and Gatos Trout and Duck Liver. I dished out a little bit, less than a quarter of the can. Sylvie liked it ... although she didn't finish it off until after I had put the sardine pate in the fridge and there was clearly no hope of her getting any!

What is it with these oh-so-particular cats!?

(That is all.)
According to the shelter workers Bosie was fed exclusively dry food at his former home. I'm slowly trying to transition him to wet food of a higher quality because I'm worried about his kidneys. Unfortunately he's super picky and seafood is the only thing he eats more than a few bites of. Anything poultry he scoffs at. I've thrown entire cans away because he'd stare at it contemptuously for 12 hours rather than take a nibble. :(

But we're getting there! Today he ate 3/4 of Salmon & Trout can by Feringa, so it's all about finding the best options. :vibes:

Ah, yes, the all-dry diet can be a big reason for pickiness with wet foods. I'm sorry you're dealing with that! (That contemptuous stare is all too familiar.)

Have you tried Weruva out on Bosie? Some of their Cats in the Kitchen canned foods (not the pouches) have both chicken and fish -- I feed our cats an occasional can of one of those and they love it. (Probably because it stinks!) A serious fish addict might (scoff and) work around the shreds of chicken but it might be worth trying.

The important thing is that you're working on switching him over to wet foods. I hope you're able to convince him sooner rather than later!

I'm EU-based, so I'd have to get it through Amazon. But I shall have a look... Thank you! :)

In other news, Bosie rejected two brands of canned food and a little saucer of cat milk today. SIGH.

Little random tip about the Weruva if you're going to try it! A lot of cats wolf it down, mine included. I was shocked when my cats turned up their nose at a can of tuna in gelee from the BFF Batch O' Besties pack. I got it because it was $5 for the pack on Chewy. They'll eat any other food in the pack except the stuff in gelee! I searched Chewy reviews and found out that a LOT of other people are experiencing just this. Weruva loving kitties turning their noses up to the flavors in gelee.

Bring it over here! My cat will not eat her regular food without some melee mixed in.
