No, the dog didn't eat the broken pieces of ceramic. Yes, she was a dog, but she did limit herself to organic matter as food. She licked all the cat food off the ceramic pieces and didn't cut her tongue or prick her gums. She ate the wooden bowl.

That's what I was trying to say. Most animals do limit themselves to - things that were once animals or plants -- as food. That was supposed to help your worrying. It still should. Cats are much picker about what they consider food than dogs.

I think your pawed the bowl out of the way, so he could play with the box. Cats have a thing about boxes.

As I said, I understand worrying and that the minute you solve one thing you'll find another even if you have to go back in history. I'm serious about the bowl and I'm very serious about the trash can. If you can't keep it in the house hang a small bucket from two cup hooks on the bottom of a high shelf. When kit tries to get the trash the bucket will swing and he'll have to jump down. It will also make you put the trash out every day.

You're going to be fine. It'll take awhile to get the hang of catting but it will happen. Being OCD is better for you cat than if you were too casual and left dangerous stuff like pins and needles all over the place. You do know to put all sewing things and dental floss in a box with a fitted lid or a plastic jar with a top, right? Next to poisonous house cleaners, sewing things are the most dangerous things in my experience. Once you've got those two groups under control you are in a very good place.

So in case anyone was wondering I finally caved in and brought him to the vet. Got x-rays done to check for any ceramic. The vet saw a tiny white piece inside his intestines. He said he wasn't concerned because it past the stomach and is very small. He said to come in a week for second xrays. It could also be a tooth maybe since the ceramic situation happened a few days ago and no symptoms of lethargy or pain. He is only teething.

Dave, you are good people.

Yes, everyone was wondering. I was wondering, has Dave decided not to post any more? Did I offend him with my comment on keeping sewing things in jars? Was that because he really can't stand the taste of instant coffee and can't figure out how to get the jars without drinking it?

What are you using for kitty bowls now?

Why can't I find his name in this thread?

grump grump grump. Oh, Happy New Year. Glad you took him in to keep your vet on his toes, and to let you get some sleep, and to keep you from poking kit to see if he's okay. Cat's gotta sleep.

The number of times I have accidentally stepped on a paw or kicked one of my cats while I was walking around (or they were lurking under the desk and I didn't see them, or similar)... Sonic has the nickname "Captain Underfoot" which is very apt... as long as they seem ok afterwards I would try not to worry too much. Keep an eye on them just in case, but try not to worry unduly.

I don't know anyone who has cats who hasn't had some sort of minor mishap in terms of tripping over/treading on a paw etc. that turns out to be no harm done.

Sorry haven't checked this forum in awhile. Happy new year and his name is Michael! Now I'm using Necoichi Raised cat food bowl. For water he has a fountain. Finally after 2 months of diarrhea he is finally free from it. The vet prescribed science hills prescription diet but didn't use it. Didn't want to buy into it. I went with Ziwi Peak air dried food and couldn't be happier. Since hes not the biggest wet food eater and he is male I needed to do a lot of research. Apparently ziwi air dried has 15 percent more moisture then regular kibble and is super healthy. No more diarrhea finally! Coat looks even better. Good way to start the year. u]Unfortunate his gums are still red. Its been a month now. I brought him to 3 different vets for it and all said teething. Last week when i brought his foor xrays for the ceramic piece he still said teething. Yesterday his gum when down and were more pink but this morning they were redder! Today is my second visit to the vet to get x rays again to see for the ceramic piece has passed and I will ask again about his gums. For the last 5 days i've been giving him greenies hoping it will help and clean his teeth. I do have toothpaste and brush but im scared since his gums are red and I don't want to hurt him

Hi!
Great news that he's better!!
Ask the vet, (I know you will :) ) if you can brush, also you could try taking a clean washcloth (rinsed well if you use scented dryer sheets), dampen it and freeze it at least partially, and see if he'll chew on that.

Give him ice chips. Cold is soothing to teething gums. There are toys for teething, but SG didn't do much with hers.
You could rub the ice on your finger tip and rub his gums with your chilled finger.

Teething sucks, that's why human babies scream through out the process. Aren't kittens great? They philosophically accept that their mouths are going to hurt forever, so they go right ahead and eat and play. All animals that aren't humans seem to figure out, I can sit here and hurt, or I can play and hurt. Either way I'm gonna hurt so PLAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just think about how amazed and thrilled he'll be when his gums finally quit hurting!!!
