I would confine her somewhere small with a litterbox nearby and get her to the vet asap like you mentioned.

Two things you should do immediately. Take her to the vet because this one trip to find out could save you so much time and frustration and even money if her pee is doing enough damage.

Second is if you're feeding her a dry food diet, get her off of it! Dry cat food was made originally was because back in the days of WWII when they needed metal to create weapons and ammo and they needed to limit the supply of metals going into pet food containers. Then came the dry food idea which means originally, this was NOT ideal. It was basically an act of desperation that dry food came to be.

Cats should be getting almost the entirety of their water supply from their food and not from actually drinking water(but you still want to give them the option to do so). Notice how cats don't voluntarily drink water compared to say... dog? That's because most of their water in the wild are through prey and the water content in the prey.

As for how to get them to eat wet food, you'll have to start them off slow. Add some wet food to their dry and slowly convert over time. It may take a few days to over a month but progress will show in due time. My cat enjoys wet food but she tends to turn her nose up on most wet food types. I later on found that my cat actually cares a lot about the temperature of the food so what I do now a days is turn up the oven to 200 degrees F and leave the canned food in there for about 10 minutes. The canned food should be warm and if it's a little hot, mix like a tablespoon of cold water or wait for the food to drop to warm temp.

If you can avoid it, do not buy fish product canned food as their main source of food. Chicken is best unless they are allergic which in that case there are turkey and beef being good alternatives at roughly the same price. Lamb may work but those cost premium in comparison. Commercial canned fish cat food can be served but I would limit that to once or maybe twice a week. Just like us humans should not eat that much tuna out of a can, you should not be feeding your cat that much fish out of a can either. Do make sure that the top 3 ingredients doesn't say "meat by-product" and completely avoid anything with "corn" or "wheat" if your budget allows it. Without those three ingredients, the food product is of higher quality and consequently costs more.

Bonus - If I can get my cat to do this(because we know how much cats LOVE getting their teeth brushed) in about 1 and 1/2 months time of daily persistence, then I'm very sure you can get your cat to eat primarily wet cat food.

P.S. - Don't punish your cat for peeing on stuff, it only teaches them one thing and that is to fear you. They don't fear what they were doing, they fear "you".

Try the Friskies Shreds. You can always try a "higher class" food later. This is the only canned food that Demi will eat. There's a chicken, beef, and 2 different turkey flavors. I would avoid the fish.
You could try the Pate flavors, but my cats are refusing them now.

She's peeing in the wrong places because the uti makes it hurt to pee. People who have had utis will tell you, the pain becomes the focus of their lives and it gets worse every day until it's cured.

Hello everyone! I just got back from the vet and found out she has an infection. Apparently the lining in her stomach is thin and I believe they found bacteria. There’s one more test I believe it’s the uricult urine culture that takes 24 hours so I’ll have to wait on that. I’ve also given her wet food and so far she’s not eating it but fingers crossed! Can anyone please tell me how long you leave wet food until you decide they’re bad? The vet gave me clavamox to help her so hopefully that works. Got her a bigger litter box as well! Thanks to everyone who’s helping! I’m just really worried about her not eating wet food but we’ll see. The vet also said to start tomorrow morning with the medicine so it’s safely in the fridge :)

SIDE NOTE: I gave her fancy feast wet food since we used to give that to her and she would eat it, but not finish it. I warmed it up for ten seconds and tried to pile it up like a mountain like I was told and so far she hasn't touched it. Wish me luck!!

Problem found and solved!!!

With antibiotics you mustn't skip a day, in case he didn't tell you. It takes about 48 hours of them before you start feeling better.

Some cats don't like re-heated food. All of mine, except the just rescued, hated it. I think that's why they started making single serving cans. If you try it again go for body temperature, test it on your wrist.

I'm not ignoring your question about the time on wet food. When I had cats who liked it the longest it was out was 5 minutes. I've seen an answer to it so it should be coming soon.

Now you know when your kitty pees around she's telling you she's sick. These infections can occur from time to time. It's best to assume it's medical before anything else. So glad you got her to the vet.

Did the vet say the medicine should be in the fridge? Not all medicines do well in the fridge.

I called them and asked what to do and they said to keep it in the fridge! I’m glad I got her to the vet, I wish I have done it sooner. It’s been two hours now since I got the wet food but still no luck :( is it a waste now?

I will leave Feeby's out for up to 4 hours. I have heard others on here who say they are comfortable with leaving it out for up to 8 hours. That freaks me out a bit, but I wouldn't fret about 2 hours. If it is cold, perhaps it 4-6 hours isn't a big deal. Also, while Feeby does like it atroom temperature, she will eat it cold, but really doesn't like it warmed. Each cat is different.

Besides fancy feast being lower quality wet canned food, I hope you didn't nuke it in the microwave(can't think of another way 10 seconds could heat up food without using too much boiling water). There's a reason why I leave it closed canned in the oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees F and that reason is so that the food warms up steadily(10 minutes was the sweet spot I've found for heating canned food) and not get zapped into oblivion by the microwave.

Of course I'm not gonna just say it's lower quality without offering something of better quality within reason though. Even if it's not a top grade quality food, it's still a lot better than Fancy Feast. Think of Fancy Feast as McDonalds and the one I'm about to post as diner food.

This currently costs either the same or less than Fancy Feast 24 can box. The 48 perfect portion size is roughly the same amount of food but it's of better quality.
Sheba Perfect Portions Grain-Free Multipack Savory Chicken, Roasted Turkey & Tender Beef Pate Cat Food Trays, 2.6-oz, case of 24 twin-packs - Chewy.com

I suggest you pick this up at a $10.67 before it jumps up to $15+

I leave it out for 3 hours. My cats don't like it microwaved either.
I use Purina canned foods. I don't consider it McDonalds. It's not fried food.

You're right, probably closer to a Chick-Fil-A lol.

You're welcome. Remember, persistence is key. Your cat may dislike it at first but they'll eventually come around and enjoy the experience. Cats are creatures of habits, since your cat's current habit is dry food she'll continue to favor dry food until you break them out of that habit.

More like diner food. Turkey or Beef sandwich with gravy.
Well you can think of it that way but pretty much all FF non-pate comes with grain and corn product which is not species appropriate. I'm sure you're aware of foods that animals can eat but will cause an upset to humans if we ate it, that's pretty much what the grain and corn does to a cat. Since it's in a smaller amount, it'll take a while but eventually it'll take its toll on the cat during mid/late stages of their lives.

Then we have the pate version which seems to not have grain or corn product but it does often have "meat by-product" ahead of what the main meats should be such as chicken, beef, or turkey before "meat by-product". Sheba does have "meat by-product" but that's labeled after the main meats which means there is less of the crappy stuff and more of the important ones.

So yeah I'd say it's pretty much in the Chick-Fil-A area since all of those food has questionable ingredients as the top ingredients. Not as bad as McDonalds which I agree with you on low quality dry food is practically McDonalds for animals.

That's your opinion. I disagree.
I would say it's an opinion because it sorta is in a way(as in I'm giving you my opinion about how I feel about the ingredients) but it is also scientifically proven. They call it "species appropriate diet". Read into it if you're interested.

It's something that may not seem to bother your cat during the earlier stages but if your cat dies at the age of 10~12, chances are it's their food because they could live well into their 20s otherwise.
