Hi everyone,

I have always been a dog person - and I have always fostered and sometimes kept mill puppies. Recently I was approached with a request to foster a " failure to thrive" kitten ...he came to us with 16 weeks and ... only 2 lb so he could recover from his neutering. We are not sure why he was so thin or didn't eat in his previous foster home- he was surrendered at only 3 weeks of age... but with us ... he ate like a champ with no issues whatsoever and we fell in love. He stayed and ... I guess he turned us into ... cat people. We decided at some point that he would need company - and cat socialization so we volunteered to take in another kitten waiting to be big enough to be spayed. When we picked her up we realized that she was surrendered way too young - 6-7 weeks maybe so we took her with her sister. Introductions went better than we ever thought they would and all three kittens became fast friends. The girls got spayed this week and we realized that we simply can't pick one to be adopted - all three seem bonded and things are problem free and the dynamic works perfectly: One can nap while two play, nobody gets bothered or singled out, any play tension is immediately diffused by the third cat - all eat and sleep and groom each other. So we went from being a dog household to a dog household with 3 cats ( pew!) - I am still somewhat overwhelmed but ... we are greatly enjoying the kittens purrs and love. We ended up with three great siamese mix kittens, now 6 months ( male) and 11 weeks ( female lynx points) - easy going, the least picky eaters in my family, playful, cuddly and good with everyone, they are doing well with the litter box and have yet to scratch on anything that is not meant to be scratched... We joined the ranks of foster failures ( again) and are now happy dog and cat people ...

Happy to see you! That's the way it happens!! many cats and dogs get along too, so you aren't out of the dog world either.

Here's the best part about having several cats -- they play with each other and not the house. Well, not the house so much.

Here's something important to do, in case you haven't already. Remove all the breakable bric-a-brac -vases, lamps, decorative things. Box them up to open again in a couple of years. It'll be like getting new stuff and keeps kits from getting cut on broken stuff.

Put all the heavy bric-a-brac away too. We almost lost a cat to a heavy bookend - metal about 4" x 7" x 2" that a feline housemate shoved off the shelf at him. (I admit, he was asking for it.)

Stick around for the adventure of a life time, or nine.

you asked for it ... here comes some cuteness .. Turnip is the oldest brother, Nori ( normal tail ) and Snowball ( short tail) the babies ... we don’t have anyhting breakable ... with that many animals and fosters over the years ...the cats have a cat room when we are not home ... with cat trees, shelving, hiding spots ... not much to destroy there ... they seem to really enjoy it ...

Welcome to TCS! I love your story. Thank you for taking those sweet, adorable little kittens in.
:purr:
I know others who have said that they used to describe themselves as dog people, before adopting a cat. I think our little furry friends have some magical powers! :winkcat:

I look forward to seeing you, Turnip, Nori, and Snowball around TCS!

Welcome to both TCS AND the ranks of the Foster Failures! We ended up keeping the one and only litter we fostered (4 cats) and, this year, a pregnant mom and her 4 kittens--whom we tried to adopt out, but it fell through--not that we exactly tried very hard to do so!

Hi everyone,
I have always been a dog person ...
I don't know how I could have missed your post but welcome to TCS! :wave3: My husband was always a dog person too, that is until we adopted our first cat. Now he is a true cat lover. :redheartpump: I think of myself as an equal or impartial animal lover since we have lived with both cats and dogs. Your three amigos are absolutely adorable and I'm thrilled you have become a blended family. :greenpaw::bluepaw:

Hi and congrats on joining the catpeople side ;)
I recently fostered/bottlefed 3 minions. 1 went to my mom, 1 was adopted and now has two back up homes who want him & the last was going to be a companion kitten to my mom's kitten. However I just had to say goodbye to my bud and so I adopted him.
Lastly 2 of the kittens are obviously siamese. (One is black & one is white with grey tips.) The white one with grey tips looked a lot like your two girls and then he darkened up. So your girls may get darker on their tails/face/feet. If they are part siamese be prepared for hyperness. I love Sunny but OMG is he an adorable hyper punk ... plus it gets worse when they are teens/young adults. If so then be prepared to wear them out mentally & physically.

..... oh and your kittens are adorable! He is such a sweet big brother!

awww your babies are adorable - what beautiful little munchkins!
I picked up my two girls directly from the lady that was surrendering them so I got to see mom and dad ( classic BYB situation who got overwhelmed and faced eviction) - Dad of my babies looked seal point siamese but with a Manx tail, mom is a darker version of the babies, a lynx point with snow shoes. I would consider mine mixes because of the short tail that 1/2 of the babies had but - they definitely have a lot of siamese in their family tree and ... behave accordingly. Their mom was darker and I expect them all to darken attire points and on their backs. Like you said ... all three are very active at dusk and dawn and gallop ( no other way to describe the stampede ) full speed through the house - up and down cat trees - jump down - gallop full speed around corners, over furniture ... I am glad they have each other to play with - they wear each other out. They also own every toy I could find to entertain themselves and love their ball tracks. They are rather quiet for siamese but ... too smart for their own good... expert door darters and tricksters ... I agree- those siamese need a lot of mental challenges and I don't think any of my 3 would make an ideal single cat ... I count my blessings that they get along and play endless games of chase and hide and seek with each other ...
