Does anyone else have a cat who can eat an entire 5.5oz can in one sitting? Am I the only one? Not every brand, but the “sliced” or “minced” ones for sure, along with the wetter pates. Maybe it’s because he’s 8 month old....?

Yes. Olive would if I let her. She is very food motivated. There was a typo on a Lotus Just Juicy Chicken Stew, it listed the calories for a 3 oz can so I fed her the whole 5 oz can. Lots of burps later, but she ate it.

Also, she is very polite with the other cats food, but if they walk away it’s free grab in her mind.

Gizmo would probably eat more than a 5.5oz can if he had his way. He's an absolute glutton. He'll steal bites of Stevie's food so I have to supervise every single meal time. It's gotten to the point where if I feed them one of the foods Stevie really likes, she refuses to eat next to Gizmo and demands that I move her dish away from him so he doesn't nab any of hers.

I think it must be because he’s growing. My previous male ate 6oz total in a day!

Yes, he’s growing!

When my boy ate 6oz at one sitting is only one part of his other feeds. He was fed like 4-5 times a day and one day he can consume around 6-7 cans a day  :p He’s was a hungry boy. Partly he was deprived of food and was under nourished when he was rescued. He gobble up his food very quickly till I have to train him to eat slowly.

More than once Mowgli convinced my husband that I hadn't fed him yet and "forced down" an entire 200 gram/7 ounce can of food in one sitting. Now whoever feeds him leaves his dish on the floor and the half can of food in the front of the fridge so the other knows he's been fed.

Kittens eat a tremendous amount and need it to grow.

I've been feeding a stray cat for two years.
He can eat two cans of Friskies with a half cup of kibble mixed in at one meal. Sometimes he comes back at night too.

Yes, absolutely, one lady who'd seen bad times, took every opportunity to eat her meals and help the others finish theirs. One boy who discovered a bag of dry food (the one that's about a foot tall) and ate most of it one night. He fell asleep in the bag. It was championship eating. It was not repeated because we became really careful about locking the week's worth of food away from little chompers.

Both of mine can chug down a 5.5 oz, and often do! I usually give them an entire can apiece in the evening, otherwise they will wake me up hungry in the night. All in all they eat about 3 oz each in the morning and 5.5 at night.
Sir is rarely ever 'done' after is meal though...he finishes then walks over to put his head on Reese's shoulder to watch her eat. (I.e., annoy her into leaving or eating faster) hence the reason why dinner time is supervised!

Mine do. I feed three 5.5 ounce cans to them in the morning. Tyler probably eats about 4 1/2 ounces and then Alex and Indie gladly finish whatever is left. It is all gone within 45 minutes. When I split two cans between them I think they had “enough” but it was a pain making sure one didn’t eat fast and try and push her brother away. This way they eat peacefully and all take a long nap afterward. Their other meals are much smaller in the afternoon and evening!

My senior kitty with IBD has a 2 oz stomach. Any meal larger than that is going to cause her discomfort and likely vomiting. I wish I learned this months ago. Now I wonder how much of her IBD was the mistaken belief or “feeding suggestions” that she should consume a 3 oz can twice a day. Her eyes are bigger than her stomach though. She turns in a clean plate every time now and looks at me like she could go for seconds. I have cleaned the carpet (or just watched her look rough) enough times to not fall for this trap anymore. Same kitty with a 2 oz stomach though is putting away 8 oz of food a day. Try as I might, I just can’t seem to get her down to less than four feedings a day. But she has weight to gain and she’s gaining it. She’s gained back 2/3 of the weight she lost to IBD!

Back when I was feeding canned, mine would, on occasion, con my parents into thinking I hadn't fed her in the morning. She would end up scarfing down 7oz in just a few hours!
