Way to go, kitty! Animals have an amazing way of easing tension between people.

I do that in regards to dating too. I could not be with someone who isnt an animal lover and if they refuse to interact with my cats, they have gotta go. Thankfully, that isn't a problem with the person I'm seeing now.

What a wonderful story. That sounded like such a great friendship and I'm sorry to hear of her passing. I hope that one day as long as I stay as active on here as I am now, I'll make a few TCS friends too. :)
I have a few buddies who aren't "cat people". But they don't talk bad things about our cats or let loose the passive aggressive comments, and (most importantly) recognize their right to exist and their right to humane treatment. These guys seem to see cats along the lines of wild animals. They ignore them, and get ignored in return and that's perfectly OK as far as a buddy goes. When it comes to a future love interest, it boils down to recognizing that if someone is dating you and can't accept something that you feel is very, very important to their life, they need to accept it. Smart people will at least try to embrace is because they know they might find something they love and enjoy that they never knew.
If they can't do that, they need to make like horse poop and hit the trail.;)

This is not a boyfriend/girlfriend situation, but Theo and Windy built a relationship with my Mom. She now calls them her Grandkitties! :) I love that!
That’s just precious. My Mom is getting at me to get a rabbit. She’s always had Grandthumpies because rabbits were my first loves, so she’s just now coming to term with her new grandkitties.

It’s the opposite for me, most of the men have massively huge dogs, then there’s cat loving women who just look at me and pass by. They said with all of your tattoos, bad boy appeal, what do you do with them... to pick up chicks, I guess? But I don’t let it bother me. It’s just someone else tossing their insecurities onto me. Don’t you worry, now that I have found this place I’m gonna kick up my feet and hang out for awhile.

I've heard rabbits and cats can get along very well in supervised quarters!
They definitely do!

The great thing about rabbits is that they're too big for cats to kill easily, unlike mice and rats. Assuming the cat even wants to. A friend of mine had a female cat who took care of some baby rats along with her own kittens.

I've got a similar situation to you, @LisaT. , only it's my father. He lost his dog about a year ago and that pup was the love of his life. When he heard we were adopting cats, I think it allowed him to get close to another animal without replacing PJ. He is particularly fond of Raja and visits her when I'm not home. Raja thinks the world of him, too.

It really has been and I think he's been very surprised at how much he likes cats. Only Raja could get him to randomly visit (he doesn't visit US nearly as much, just the cats!) and he knows where we keep the treats and puts together their cat furniture whenever we need him to. He named his last beer after her and had special labels made for it. That 70 year old Navy guy is one smitten kitten!

Great thread and story Tommy End. A lot of great story's here! Amazing what cats and animals in general can do to bring people together.

I can assure you that cats and Rabbits can and do get along. I had a rabbit and a cat that were best of friends. They've both passed now but, they were a hoot to watch and you could see they had a bond.

kittyluv387 kittyluv387 I seen that story on My Cat from Hell. Jackson featured it in one of the shows. Simply amazing how the whole thing took place!

Nothing really super sweet or amazing, but I got into it with a nearby neighbor once and we didn't speak for awhile. The mail guy left something for them at our place, so I did the old grunting and cursing and swearing thing and drove it over to them, intending to dump it in their mailbox. When I got there, he was sitting at the edge of his lane petting one of his barn cats, I drove up, decided I couldn't heave his mail out of the window, so pulled over and got out and said "got some of your mail." As I handed it to him, his cat (super friendly thing) ran over and started rubbing my ankles. I haven't completely lost myself so I stooped down and gave him some pets, and before I knew it we were talking and laughing like old times. All was forgiven because this little barn cat told us to stop acting like morons and get over it already.
So we did.

in 1998, the guitar player i was in a band with who i was fairly friendly with got a kitten unexpectedly and wanted advice. the kitten was wild and adventurous, so there was lots to talk about. we talked cats, i started coming over with cat treats, and next thing you know, it's today - the guitar player and i have been together for approaching 20 years (married since 2006) and that kitten is a 20 year old cat lying on the bed waiting for me to join him :)

I’ve had both in the past, but that was in the Netherlands. I don’t talk about it much, because my biological father was in an occult and no animal lasted long in my house. Once I moved I out, I moved on to rabbits, who have all passed away now, I got a dog that who my moms will refuses to part with. When I moved to Orlando for work, I got my cats and there is a rabbit at a shelter that I’ve been eyeing for about a week.

What a wonderful story! :) I definitely hope that my situation ends up like yours. I just need to pop the question at some point. I’d say more, but my girlfriend is on here now and she’s known to be a tad bit nosy. I say that with love, of course.

That's such a heartwarming story! Toffee and Fudge have helped me become closer to some of my friends who I don't talk to as regularly, since they're crazy cat ladies too. They also helped reconcile my neighbours and I for a little who we've never really got on with (they're quite cold and antisocial and don't really talk to anyone in the neighbourhood despite having lived here for two decades), however we don't speak to them anymore since she has also excessively complained about the cats (which is unfair considering she has two cats of her own).
I’m glad that you two were able to get along for awhile at least. Does her cats get away with doing whatever they want and yours are supposed to be perfect? Sounds rather hypocritical to me.

I’m so sorry about your father’s dog passing away. They become our babies and we never want to lose them or replace them, but it’s always nice to have another animal to fill some of the void that was left behind since he lost his beloved dog.

I’ve read many stories on here that make me smile, laugh, and sometimes get misty eyed. But I’ll be damned if I’ll let then run down my cheek. I’m too “manly”. I think I’ll be picking up the rabbit fron the shelter came Monday morning. I truthfully, miss having a little thumper hopping around.

As a child, my father always wanted but was never allowed to have a dog. In his adult life, there was always a family member living with him who was allergic that prevented him from having one. He was finally able to have a dog in his fifties and that was PJ. I have never seen that man cry or mourn so long for anyone than he did for that dog. In his own mind, he feels he is too old to adopt another dog because he fears the dog will outlive him (he is healthier than anyone I know) so the cats have filled that void as well.
