Feel free to move because I wasn’t sure if this could go with my other post about the cat.

The vet I see actually works for an animal hospital so there are two other vets that work there. I normally ask for the one, but sometimes he isn’t in when I need to get a cat in, so I get one of the other two. I honestly don’t like one of them, but I won’t get into details.

Before getting all my cats they were of course tested, and all were negative - including two year old Apollo. When he got sick with IMHA, he was tested again and was negative. I got all my other cats tested just in case and they all came back negative.

Today he saw the vet I liked and, because he was doing poorly, he was once again tested for both. Once again negative.

Do you think that third test was really nessesary?

All cats are indoor only.

The third test might have just been a precaution, just in case the ELISA showed a false negative. Of course, you can ask your vet if you have any questions.

I hope Apollo is feeling better soon! :alright: :crossfingers:

My current vet is on vacation. The vet that saw Apollo was the one on call. I just didn’t see the point of it. My regular vet said he’d increase Apollo’s prednisone dose if his pcv wasn’t improving yet this vet did the leukaemia test and gave me antibiotics (which yeah made sense cuz he was running a fever but besides the pcv test she only tested for leukaemia and fiv)

Mine tested negative when I got him but I often wonder if I should retest. Vet seems to think no need and doesn’t encourage it. I’m not so sure, but I’m ok with not testing for the time being.

Testing your cats several times might make sense if it is done over a wide span of time, so to avoid the "window period" of the infection.
Testing your cats every, say, 15 days, makes no sense at all.

Can you specify how long it was between a test and the next one?

His last test was a couple months ago, when he was found to be anemic and first diagnosed with IMHA.

A FIV/FeLV snap test is reliable if done when Kitty is at least 6-7 months old.
Of course you can test Kitty earlier, but you might not trust the result.

If you are doubtful about the test you have just done, you can ask for a second test a few months later, I'd say not earlier than 5-6 months, and again if you think you need a third test.

I don’t doubt it. He’s negative. I just don’t understand why the vet did one when Apollo was checked roughly two months ago.

The answer might sit in the vet's mind.
My speculation is that HE was doubtful, or was unsure of what he did the time before. Or he just wanted to charge you another test.
I’m starting to think she’s just charging me. She IS NOT my original and preferred vet - my vet is on vacation and she was the only one at the clinic.

1) I had my vet run the most accurate felv/fiv test there was. Unless he somehow picked it up between his kitten test and now, I seriously doubt he has it.

2) She charged me (or well my mom) for another box of antibiotics today even though I have 14 days worth of it and this med says on the side of the box to not use for more than 7 days

3) She nearly tried to give him dewormer without my permission which my mom thankfully stppped.

Side note: I am not a huge fan of this vet whatsoever - she is very condensending.

I just went threw a scary thing that got me try a new vet for the first time in 20 years. My dolly had a 1/2in long cyst on her neck and her old vet told me that it was stage 3 cancer and surgery wasn't an option for her. That we could try to do chemotherapy but he didn't think that it would have been able to treat her. My cat is 16 years old. So being told this destituted my family. My old vet just didn't want to mess with her anymore because of her age. I found a great new vet
Who puts her first.

I was just wondering if your vet was doing to you with your companion like my old vet did me. Because your posts kinda made it seem like it was with my old vet who took advantage of me. I hope that is not the case for you. I hope your companion gets better.

No! Omg I’m sorry you had to go through that situation but my current vet IS NOT doing this to me.

The vet practice has three vets (let’s say A, B, and C). My vet is Vet A, and he’s been on vacation. I love the goof dearly.

For the last two appointments, Apollo has been seen by Vet C, who has been doing the things in my above posts.

I'm glad to hear that you have a honest vet who's doing it for the love of animals NOT the money. Keep us posted on Apollo please.

This is absolutely non-professional!
I think you should report what is going on to your good old vet, vet A.

Just imagine what other damages she's doing with lots of other pets :mad2:

That's exactly what happened to me about two years and a half ago. My vet had been lovingly following and curing my cat for over 15 years.
But when my sweet kitty had a rare disease, my vet told me to let her go, just because she was 16 years old and she wasn't worth the effort any longer!
