TWENTY-NINE YEARS ELEVEN MONTHS!
tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I can't take much of the credit - she was my late Father's cat, and you know what he was like. If she wanted prime rib, that's what she got.

Victoria belonged to his neighbour's Son - one of the NW New Moon Eclipse and SGC Medina of Sin-Chian line, born April 18, 1976. He'd intended to show her and breed her, and he lost his Life to a motorcar accident. His Mother - Dad's neighbour - had her spayed, and a few years later she passed on, and left the kitty to Mom and Dad's care. Dad adopted a kitten from their local shelter as a companion for her - Thunder - who lived nineteen years. Mom passed just before Thunder did, and Dad shortly thereafter. Victoria outlived her owner, his Mother, my Mother, her long time companion, Thunder, and my Father, and passed away here, in her sleep, in the wicker basket in which my Mother brought me home from the hospital, fifty-odd years before.

zed xyzed zed xyzed - My dear Friend, Tarasgirl has pretty much answered from my point of view as well - Love conquers all, as Virgil once reminded us. A part of our job as good stewards is to provide absolute safety, and as much comfort as we're able. Mine get canned food three or four times a day, I keep the windows open most of the year because they enjoy looking out at the birds, the foxes and deer and raccoons and all the little animals, and I talk to 'em all day. I make sure I pick each one up and hold him or her a couple of times a day, and remind them that they're safe and Loved - and that Love conquers all. I seldom speak much above a whisper, I don't use the television, and try not to startle anyone.

They're not much different than people in my experience, really, other than that cats are born knowing how to Love with their whole Hearts, and most people never quite figure that out. If you're nice to them, they're nice to you. If they're happy, they thrive and prosper. Their veterinarian is an old Friend, and he comes to see them fairly often, but seldom makes any pronouncements about them unless they're fooling with his slice of pizza.

They get plain old dry food, fed ad libitum, but they seldom touch it. They get "people food" as snacks and treats - duck, ham, chicken, lamb and whatever else fits in the oven or on the grill. There are no "off limits" places, and little to frustrate them, and with no real work on my part, they seem to get on just fine in Life.

If you ever do, run, don't walk, for some serious help. That is one irresistibly cute kitten. At 14. ;)
Since her IBD and pancreatitis, that feed-me face comes calling every four hours. No matter what the clock says. She’s worlds better these days. She’s finally put weight back on. I just need to take her in for the panc. checkup. If it’s managed and it seems to be (Miss “I eat 8 oz of raw meat a day” ;)), we will work towards a more sane feeding schedule.

*Prayers* for her that it is! She's such a little beauty.

Simon is our oldest. When we got him nearly five years ago, the vet said he was 8 and FIV positive. That vet suggested euthanizing Simon. When we found him, he was nearly starved to death, and we were trying to give him a chance. We switched vets shortly after and took Simon in to see what she said. Since Simon is laid back and does not bite the other cats, she gave me a care guide.

FIV+ by itself is certainly no cause to panic or give up on a cat! Many FIV+ cats live happy, healthy and loved lives. So glad to see Simon is one of those cats!

For my part, yes, the love is #1, along with safety (keeping 'em indoors only!), good food (high quality wet food 3x a day, plus high quality dry for a snack, and dental treats, ditto), fresh water (both in stationery bowls in a cat fountain, cleaned weekly, just like the instructions call for), exercise, comfort -- you know, the whole 9, just like we like for ourselves! No smoking, no alcohol, no other drugs, no cattin' around *fix 'em by five! months, that is* and limit their cat porn. :winkcat:
great advice, I know so many neighbours who lost a kitty that ventured outside unsupervised. I hope I am not pestering you but what wet food do you have in your rotation ?

I am so glad that you didn't follow that vet's advice. What a handsome guy

You're not ever bothering me when it comes to caring about your cat! That's what TCS is here for. It's what I'm here for, too. Only too happy to share! I order my food auto-delivery from drsfostersmith.com. The foods on current rotation are (all 5.5 oz cans, 24/case): Blue Buffalo -- Chicken for mature cats, Turkey and Chicken pate, Red Meat Feast; Soulistic (all 5.5 oz cans, 8 to a case): DOUBLE HAPPINESS Tuna & Crab Surimi, AQUA GRILL Tilapia & Tuna, GOLDEN FORTUNE Chicken & Tuna, POLYNESIAN PICNIC Chicken & Tilapia, Turkey Dinner In Gravy, Salmon In Gravy, GOOD KARMA Chicken Dinner In Gravy, PURE BLISS Whole Meat Tuna; Drs. Foster & Smith: Adult Chicken Formula (5.5 oz./24 cans), Country Classics Chicken (5.5 oz/24 cans) and Country Classics Sampler (three different formula including the chicken, trout and brown rice, and salmon & shrimp & brown rice); and Nutro Max Cat (5.5 oz/24 cans) Senior Chicken & Lamb Formula. They have the Drs. Foster & Smith Adult chicken dry cat food (7#) and their dental treats in Salmon, Tuna, and Chicken flavors. *I also give them Drs. Foster & Smith Catnip.* Add fresh water daily, brushing and combing, and lots of LOVE. You can set up auto-delivery and any time you need to change anything, they have very nice customer service people in Wisconsin.
Yeah, my folks and a lot of others back in the day didn't know to keep cats inside. Also, there were nowhere near as many dangers then as now. But one of our cats ran up a power pole and was there for 3 days and nights before the FD came and got him down!!! He was later murdered by a coyote. So yes, it's indoors only for my cats, no ifs, ands, or buts. I'd put a catio on the house here, like we had on our last house, but they make you pull a permit, and I honestly can't afford it, plus these urban yards aren't big enough and the air isn't really great. So I'm glad we have a big house to roam around in.

Here’s Great Great Grandma, who I adopted from rescue back in 2013.

Don’t know how old she is, but she’s old.

What a sweet lady elder you had!

Great Great Grandma was “more than 9 years old” according to the documents relating to her adoption. Now she’s more than 14. Still likes to dart out the door for a little grass.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - Lord, but she's such a raving beauty.

Lance says that he's not, "a senior kitty."

Awwwwwwwwwwww, LANCE! What a cutie boy! *SNORGLES* and kisses right on the nose for Lance from me! He's so adorable. *Down girl*
TYSM. Tortoiseshell cats really are showy, special cats IMHO. That black flecked with gold is so elegant, stylish, and eye-catching!
