I just got home from the vet with my poor kitty. He is having some skin issues and has to wear the cone of shame. He’s just bumbling around running into everything, and it is breaking my heart! I’m worried it hurts him when he runs into things! He has to wear it for a few days. When he used the litter box he kept getting litter in the cone. He gave up trying to cover his pee because it was too hard. I fixed his water where he can get to it, and I spoon fed him his lunch (I know I’m a crazy cat lady!) I just feel so bad for him! I need some reassurance from my fellow catsite friends because it’s making me want to cry! :sniffle:

Unless the vet said not to, you can remove the come just for meal times. The cone might be annoying to the cat but it won't hurt him if he runs into something. One of my cats wore a cone for a week and he kept walking into walls and dragging the cone along the floor

Hope your cat heals well :vibes:

As LTS3 said, you can remove the cone for him to eat but keep an eye on him. You could also take it off when you play or fuss him. He will get used to it so don't feel bad.

Thanks for the reassurance! Yes, I will definitely be removing it for his dinner when my husband is home! I didn’t take it off for lunch because I wasn’t sure I could get it back on by myself.

If it's to keep him from licking, a 'onsie' might work better. It takes them a while to get used to it too, but it's not as cumbersome. Just make sure they can pee with it on! It should end at the hips.

My Charlie had a abcess on tail and had to be in cone for a month. The one from vet was like yours, trouble for my poor boy so I found one on Amazon. It is a soft cone, looks like a big flower, by Sun Grow, comfy cone $12.30. It was so much better! Easier for him to sleep, walk around, I could just flip,it back for him to eat, no problem going in litter box. Best money I spent! It made for a happier kitty even though any cone is not comfortable, this is a must have for pet owners. Maybe that will help .

Thanks! I found it on amazon, and I think I will order it. Looks so much better than this plastic thing. His tail wounds still are pretty raw, so I think he’ll be needing to wear his cone for several more days. Hooray for Amazon Prime!

They dont like the cones, but they do get use to it. my little white cat was in one for almost 4 months. got to where she could eat, potty, play do everything she normally did, and didn't seem to even notice the cone anymore. They dont like them, they do get use to it, and it can save them from damaging the site. :heartshape:

Here’s a little update on our cone situation. I tried the cone that RCM mom RCM mom suggested. Unfortunately he was still able to reach his tail wound. We went back to the original cone, and he was very depressed and sleeping all the time. He even would come cuddle with us which he NEVER does. Anyways, last night we found his favorite fetch ball, and he figured out how to play fetch with his cone on! He is so much happier now that he learned he can still play. Hopefully just a few more says with this darn cone! My video was too long to attach, so here’s a picture of him bringing his favorite ball back to me!
