My Nemo is a constipated cat. He was eating half raw and half wet before but with the constipation and other issues I have switched him to 100% wet. It has been a struggle but we managed with 1/8tsp of miralax twice a day with his food. But today in the morning we had a disaster. He had a bowel movement but it got kinda tacky towards the end. It also got tangled up with my long hair that he digested. :( It was a disgusting mess with streaks all over the floor. I ended up having to give him a bath and he resisted a lot. This all happened right after eating and he threw up a little bit after the bath. I assume it's from all that panic right after eating. I really don't know what to do to make his poo, less tacky? Anyone have any advice...this is draining the both of us. Luckily I was working from home today but I'll have to go to the office wed-fri and I'm really scared of what I'll find when I get home...Do i need to decrease the miralax? That's what I assume I need to do...He has been on lactulose and cisapride before. The lactulose didn't seem to do anything and when he got on cisapride, that's when his poo became super tacky. Would love any input. Thank you.

I have had issues with both diarrhoea and constipation with my cats. I find that a sprinkle of Psyllium on their food a couple of times a day for about 2/3 days works for them. It is not ingested but firms a gel. With diarrhoea it binds the poop and with constipation, eases the passage. Might be worth a try.

I would try to increase his water intake. Get a fountain or set little bowls of water in different places to get him to check them out and hopefully drink. Maybe decrease his miralax to once a day, but check with your vet first. A call should do. Go to Walmart and get some wet wipes for cats, they call them waterless baths. Just make sure it is for cats. they smell good and would be a lot easier on him than a bath. Maybe you could wet his rear end with warm water first as a sort of prewash. It would be a lot easier with two people and maybe with him wrapped in a towel.

Thanks I'll look into psyllium.

My vet hasn't even heard of using miralax for cats. I stopped using lactulose and cisapride on my own. He gets a lot of water because I add in extra to his wet food. I do keep fragrance free/sensitive skin wipes on hand but it just got too messy today, sigh. What a day. Im going to have to close off the rooms when I leave for work tomorrow and put sheets over the couch...

I too have wet wipes on hand, helps a ton. I use huggies natural care only. Usually I distract with food on one end and wipe wipe wipe quickly on other!

For food... OMG, don’t even start. Kitties and their stomachs :headshake: I’ve had best success with fancy feast classic. If for any reason one flavor starts to give them diarrhea or any issues like constipation, I immediately switch to another flavor or type of fancy feast food, like grilled or gravy lovers.
