I've been seriously considering switching Sir and Reese off of pate completely. They just can't seem to scoop it all into their mouths no matter how hard they try. Only problem is, I can't find a good quality food that I can afford in shreds or chunks. (I nearly passed out when I saw the price of 8 cans of Tiki, that's less than 4 days of food for me)
Pate cans seem to be the largest and most affordable in most brands.

They've been eating 4Health and Crave, and every time I pull out a can of pate they stare at it like 'ugh this again' before diving in, only to get it into their noses, on their chins, and smashed into the bottom of their dish. Eventually they give up and leave half the bowl unless I gather it all up and scoop it back into a pile for them to smash again.

My friend was having the same problem til I gave her a can of Weruva Press Your Lunch. If it works try mixing it in. I don't think it has enough "power" for my cats. She rescued a cat so I was going to suggest to have the vet check her gums

My two that aren't huge fans of patés really like the Weruva "stews" line. But anything shredded and in gravy is more their style.

My old senior gal loooooves patés so she's made out great getting her own stash of food that the other two won't eat. :flail:

Dave’s Pet Food is pretty cost effective and the ingredients are pretty good. I feed Dave’s Shredded Chicken Dinner, which is one that doesn’t have Careageenan.

I tried putting a little water in!! It worked for Reese (kind of, she ate a lot of it but basically sucked the water out of the last few bites and left it pressed to her bowl) but Sirvester looked at me like I'd lost my marbles. He sniffed it and I couldn't tell if he was giving a cough or a dry heave LOL

Adding water works with my kitty. I also smush it up, since Amelia refuses to try anything that is too big to fit in her mouth easily (and she's got a tiny mouth). Chopping it up into little pieces and putting it on a plate might make it easier for them to get it in their mouths instead of on their faces.

I always add water, and mash it up a bit for them. Also, serving it on ceramic plates seems to help, because they can lick it up easier. One of my boys has had trouble with it in the past too, and those options seem to help him. He's on a perscription diet, so the only option is pate :p

I never serve a pate as a big chunk of cat food in the food dish. (I think some or most people just cut the diameter of the food in half, in an open can of pate food, and serve up the half in one fell swoop?)

My cat has trained me :paperbag: to cut and slice up her serving of pate into small, pea-sized cubes. Some pates are too soft for you to do this when a can is first opened, but refrigerating them helps the food to be a bit more stiff. It's then easier to cut the pate into little bite-sized cubes.

I bought a case of Vintage cat food from Costco (Canada), and it was a bit denser than what my cats like. I’ve been adding water to it every morning and they gobble it down no problem. My two like pates but prefer a “stew” over an actual pate.

My guys are not fans of pate either. It is often the most cost efficient and nutrient dense food, but if they wont eat it it doesn't matter. mine always leave most of it in the plate as well. and if i add a bit of water they will not touch it.

I have found with mine they like shreds, or minced food. there are a lot of them out there. If its larger chunks, or bigger shreds i will chop it up with a fork a bit, so that its smaller bits. This always seems to work with my guys. Some cats are as picky about texture of the food as much as anything else.
