Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be very detailed in the hopes that someone can help me. Let me start off by saying that our cat is a lover of food. She loves to eat as much as we will give her. About a week ago she started to eat less. Maybe 50-65% of what she normally eats. On Friday she stopped eating completely starting at lunch. We took her to her regular vet office immediately for an emergency visit. She saw a new vet she hasn't seen before since he was the only one available. We told him to run any and all tests to find out the problem. Luckily, we have a really honest vet office so he ran only the tests he thought was necessary.

Our cat has a chronic problem with throwing up her food. On average she will throw up 3-5 times a week (we feed her 3 times a day so she throws up 3-5 meals out of 21). Because of this he thinks she has IBD (irritable bowel disease). So he prescribed her some medication, recommended a special food that her stomach wont reject and gave her some shots he thought would help. When she came home Friday we gave her some of the special food. She only ate a little bit (about 40% of what we gave). Luckily she has been drinking water but less of it.

Saturday morning I noticed her stomach was abnormally swollen. I gave her the wet food that the vet gave (the one she ate on Friday) and she wouldn't touch it. I gave her some regular dry food that she loves and she ate a few kibbles. In the afternoon she wouldn't eat anything we gave her. We tried 3 different foods and she wouldn't eat at all. The vet called for a followup and told us that her blood work came back perfect. Meaning her kidney, liver and everything else the blood work detects has zero abnormalities. When I told him about the swollen stomach (he thinks its gas) and not eating he said not to worry about it. He said to keep giving her the medication he prescribed and she would eventually start eating.

Its Sunday morning and she still isn't eating anything. Meaning she hasn't eaten anything since Saturday afternoon. She hasn't thrown up since Wednesday. So I don't understand if her loss of appetite is from IBD caused by vomiting; why hasn't she started eating? She is still swollen, seems to have less energy and is moving around slightly slower then usual. Otherwise she is behaving normally and doing what she normally does. Also she has only used the litter box to urinate since Thursday night. I know the doctor said not to worry but I cant help it. Is there anyone who can think of any reason why she may be acting this way? Should we get a second opinion from another vet if things don't improve by tomorrow? Could her intestine be blocked somehow stopping her from excreting her feces? Hence her not wanting to eat? The vet checked her stomach area by feeling with his hands but I feel like maybe that could be the reason.

Did your vet take xrays? My immediate thought is a blockage but an xray would have shown it.

Whether or not this is IBD (and it may not be) this is close to being or is a medical emergency at this point. IBD does NOT typically present with a bloated stomach. A bloated stomach with loss of appetite is very serious and I would take your cat to the nearest vet today that is open, a 24/7 vet presumably since today is sunday. I cannot stress how serious this sounds.

If she hasn't pooped since Thursday, that's a long time. It sounds like she could be constipated or a blockage.

Thank you for all the replies. I'm not taking any chances. I will call a 24/7 vet place asap and take her in for the xray. I will give you all an update when I get a chance.

Just wanted to give you all a quick update. I work the night shift so I came home, posted on this forum and went to sleep. I didn't know what happened with our cat since last night since the rest of the house was asleep when I came home in the morning. However, we are crazy animal lovers in this house so I figured my sister and wife were on top of her care. I called my wife at work a few minutes ago and asked about bowel movements and thankfully she said that she did use the litter while I was sleeping this afternoon. Apparently, my sister manged to hand feed her a bit of tuna mixed in with laxatone last night (she did it just in case our cat was constipated).

Looks like it paid off. So as of now I can cross off immediate medical emergency off the list. Also, she ate a bit of her dry food about 10 minutes ago (20% of her normal meal) and is resting on my lap as I type. :) I'm still very worried and will continue to monitor her and keep in contact with our regular vet regarding her status. So hopefully she will continue to get better with time. I will give another update when things change. Thanks again everyone for such an immediate response. This forum is a great resource that I will be sure to contribute to.

I had a feeling she might have been constipated or a hairball. Now that she's gone to the litter box, maybe she will have room for more food, hopefully some canned food too, for the moisture.

Absolutely! We give her Weruva for her wet food but she loves dry food more in general so she ate that. But we are leaving out both in the hopes she will eat it. Luckily she is one of those weird cats that drink a lot of water on her own so she should not be too dehydrated.

Its official our beautiful daughter is literally down to her last days. I'm torn up beyond belief. Will post about her on the rainbow bridge because she is not there yet but I'm sure she can see it very clearly at this point...........:sniffle:

I'm so sorry this is happening. So it wasn't just constipation? What did the vet say it was?

It actually turned out to be stomach cancer...... It was at an advanced stage. She was eating less because of the pain. The regular vet caught it when we went in for a follow up visit because she still was eating less. We spent $1,700 for a proper prognosis with a very skilled and honest oncologist. I told him we would be willing to pay any amount if there was a good chance she could be saved. He said that there was no chance and we would only extend her suffering. We let her pass away (put her to sleep) at her favorite spot in the house on 6/10/17.......

I hope your cat just has some minor condition Trisha. Please give us an update when you get a chance.
