Lots Of Smelly Poos...

Hi there, my beautiful 5 month old Franklin seems to be at the litter tray all the time. We can have a tray full of hard stools in the morning and when we get home from work (often removing 12 pellets at a time). Plus, they are excessively smelly! He eats mostly dry food, but is slowly coming around to flaky wet pouches - at the moment, he licks off the jelly or gravy and eats just bits of meat. Do I need to look at his diet or is it nothing to worry about?

What dry food is he eating? Certain dry foods can lead to nasty smells in the litter box.

Have you tried adding some canned wet food to his diet? Since you said he is frequently in the litter box and you are finding dry, hard poop, it sounds like he needs more moisture in his diet that canned food provides. Do you have a fountain? They will often encourage cats to drink more water as well.

constipation could be a problem. Wet food will often fix this, and maybe a wet food with pumpkin, or add a little real pumpkin to his wet food. not pie filling, just plain pumpkin.

There are a lot of wet foods out there, maybe pick up several different proteins, textures, brands, and see what he might like?

It may also be good to have a vet visit, he may have something else going on that needs taken care of. Do keep us updated!

Do you think he would be OK with probiotics added to his food? Most cats love Forti-Flora, they seem to like the smell/taste.
