Hello everyone I am new to this website. I have a female cat who got spayed 7 days ago. I had to take her back to the vet since she licked her incision too much and they had to glue it. They also gave me a cone to put on her for 7 days. I take off the cone so she could eat but instead she starts to lick her incision. She is an outdoor cat. Another issue is she is not defecating at all. She is not litter trained I have tried to train her but its never worked. How long does it take for a incision to fully close? Also can I keep the cone on at night? Thanks so much and sorry for many questions this is the first time I have got an animal spayed.

Welcome to TCS! :wave3: I'm glad you had your cat spayed since she goes outdoors. However, I would not encourage you to leave her outside until her incision has healed. Here is a helpful Article about what to expect after a spay surgery:

In answer to your question, yes, please leave the cone on at night especially since she has been licking the incision. It's for her own benefit.

Here is another Article about litterbox training that will address some of your other concerns:

Best of luck, please keep us posted on her progress. :alright:

My vet suggested MiraLAX after the spay as producing a BM can be painful after such an invasive surgery due to the straining. 1/8 of a teaspoon once a day worked for my girl. Double check with your vet to see if MiraLAX is an option for your kitty.
We are on day 15 post op and the incision is fully healed. However, lumps remain due to internal stiches that haven’t dissolved yet.
We only removed the cone to feed and water her, or if we could monitor her closely with it off to prevent licking, then it went back on. We left it on overnight and when we could not supervise her.

Glad she is doing better. Keep that cone on, until she is fully healed is the best advice i can give. My little white girl had issues and had to wear one about 4 months. She did not like it, but she adjusted. She could eat and drink with the cone quite well after a few days. They are not fun, but they work! :heartshape:
