Hi everyone hope u are all doing good...i got my new kitten(persian/siamese cross) from someone like 10 days ago he was about 2.5 months old a fairly okay age to adopt him....adjusting him was never difficult i am home these days so he got quite along...even sleeps on my bed now...i went to vet asked for good kitten food with good protein and fat...BUT few things i am worried about are
1- his physique he doesnt look like he is about to be 3 months old maybe its just me imagining
2-he seems to be pot bellied which maybe bcs of the fact i free feed him always have food in his bowl bcs i want him to grow and read somewhere that kittens of this age can be free fed.....or maybe because he has worms inside his belly but he shows no signs of lethargy since he plays for a while and then sleeps which most kittensndo...no diherria signs and his poops are all fine solid and brown colored...

3 months or 13 weeks is the correct time to take a kitten - after it has had it's last booster. Your kitten looks to me to be about 8 weeks, or very undernourished. What does the vet say? Has he been wormed each month, has he had all his vaccinations?

I believe it is recommended to take all new kittens to the vet, regardless of what the seller told you, just in case. It's also easier and faster to get appointments after the first one at places near me, I don't know how common that is. The vet should be able to tell you if he's at a healthy weight.

I've read many things that said free feeding kittens up to a year old is fine, since they are active and still growing. I make sure at least half of her daily diet is wet food, but I can't leave it out all day or it will go bad. Dry food is available all the time. (my kitten is 6 months old)

Also, I don't trust my vet's nutritional advice, and I've read at least a few others in here in the same boat. My vet told me dry or wet was fine as long as it was for kittens...and nearly every other source said wet is better, regardless of whether it's labeled for kittens.

When you went to the vet for nutritional advice, did you take your little guy with you to have him checked out? If so, did the vet have any remarks about his size/belly? If not, please get a vet wellness visit for him. Not only should it be done just to have him checked out, it will also help to determine if there might be something going on with him - always better to detect a potential problem earlier than later.

yeah i will take him to vet for his vaccinations in couple of days...that might just be the cause i think...since he shows no actual signs of having worms but i read somewhere that kittens can have worms and show no signs of illness...and with deworming i will make sure he gets other vaccinations too....he is an indoor cat wont let him go out i am training him this way so vaccinations for other diseases isnt necessary but i will give him that just to be on safe side

and he seems undernourished thats what my main concern is although my neighbours who have cats and other people around me think he is normal and will grow eventually since he has only been with me for 10 days so far and they think i am being over protective and not giving enough time to analyse if there is an actual issue...but i just want to be on safe side to make sure he grows into a healthy cat

no first time i went i went alone and asked all my general questions about nutrition e.t.c he told me its better for him to be vaccinated before he gets to 3 months and he will be 3 months on 20th october so i will take him to vet maybe in couple of days to get his first shots....i may be overthinking about him not being growing as he should but its better to have him go to vet for check up...

well i cant find nutritional good quality wet food in my city since there isnt much health concerns of cats here usually people who keep them pets give them raw meat or boiled chicken and they grow quite well because not much viruses and infections here and thats the reason people dont bother going to vets and aint much wet food available in market even this dry one i am giving him has been imported by my vet and its cost me alot but since my other option is local quality dry food which isnt that good so i give him a german one known as wahre leib its for kittens and has 38% protein and 20% fat content and consists of chicken and turkey and he likes eating it and infact he instantly started eating it when i first gave him i thought i was gonna have to transition him slowly to the new taste e.t.c but he seemed to like it in first place.....

As long as he is eating/drinking/using litter box/playing and isn't acting sick, a couple of days wait to get him to the vet shouldn't really be an issue. You can worry more about short-term, and long-term, food practices once he's gotten checked out and you have more input from the vet about his general size and his belly. BTW - the belly size could be a symptom of malnourishment? If so, given his age, that should resolve itself once he is eating consistently/healthily and gains some weight.

yeap hopefully the vet will give positive reviews about him...he is acting all fine plays for an hour or 2 then sleeps well and wakes up and cycle repeats and at night takes proper sleep alongside me :p is eating well like i said his poop is all fine too....and malnourished i meant as in his whole body size not just the belly.. that he looks like he is maybe 2 months old like another user mentioned here.....in terms of belly i am only concerned about maybe him having a pot belly its soft not hard and could just be his food stored and thats why i may be imagining things on my own thats why i attached images since since its the only sign of having worms i think he may have otherwise all other signs nope....

Welcome to TCS. What is your kitten's name? He's very cute.

Where are you located (country, region)? There are TCS members all over the world, and they may be able to help you find food for your kitten.

It's important to feed kitten/cat food to a kitten as much as possible so they get all the nutrients they need for proper organ and muscle development.
Products sold as cat or kitten food have supplements added to provide those essential nutrients.
