Just wondering if anyone with more cat experience might have some further thoughts on this situation...

Our 10 yr old cat suddenly developed a very large swollen side of face. Took her to vet first thing next morning. They think it's an abscess, but no signs of infection. They recommend surgery. We reluctantly agree because they seem to think she must have the procedure. She comes home later that day with a drain in the side of her neck that's open and draining bloody fluid all over the place. She is lethargic, no energy, just lying around. But this is first day, so I'm not too worried.
Next day, Friday, she's still really out of it, not eating or drinking. Just lying around and yowling occasionally. The same on Saturday. Finally I give her a subcutaneous fluid bolus Saturday night because she hasn't had anything to eat/drink since before surgery. Today, Sunday, she's still extremely listless, lying around, hardly moving, still not eating or drinking. I gave another fluid bolus as I'm sure she's dehydrated. But besides that, I can't figure out what might be wrong with her. We've been cleaning the drain site and there doesn't appear to be any signs of infection and her breathing and heart rate are within normal limits. She is breathing quite shallowly though.
Anyone who's had a cat with surgery before have any thoughts: Could she be still out of sorts from the surgery? Is this all dehydration? Is it just being uncomfortable from the drain in her neck (doesn't seem to be painful cause she lays on it sometimes)? Is this somewhat normal for cats?
My plan is to take her into vet again first thing tomorrow, but that seems a long ways away and I just would love any input from someone who might have been through something similar???

Is she on any pain medications? It could be the pain medication making her drowsy. I've had several cats with abscess and usually once they get the drain in they start feeling better. Link's last abscess was also on his face and he was doing better right after. He actually had problems with getting constipated from the medications but that didn't start affecting him until about a week after the drain.

Just keep getting as much food and liquids in her that you can to help her body heal. Let us know how her vet appointment goes.

That honestly doesn't sound good. I'd be concerned about sepsis. You absolutely need to get her back to the vet first thing tomorrow. The fact that she's not eating needs to be addressed with your vet. This is an indoor cat only?

She's not on any pain meds. They didn't prescribe or give us any.
As for sepsis - not sure... there's no outward signs of infection such as fast heart rate or breathing rate and she doesn't feel feverish. And the site where the drain/stitches are doesn't appear infected in any way either.
I just hope they can figure something out and get us in right away in the morning.
Thank you!

If her heart rate is not elevated she'll be fine until tomorrow. Please come back here and let us know what your vet says! So many people post and then never come back to update. Fingers and paws crossed for a speedy recovery.

Thank you! I hope they can figure out what's going on - she was perfectly fine until this surgery - I wish they (animals) could tell us what's wrong!
And I will come back to update - I really appreciate all thoughts/advice!

She didn't make it. Died a bit ago. She didn't seem in pain until the last hour and by that time, it was too late, even to take her to the emergency vet.
Honestly, I knew something was wrong and should've taken her in sooner, but we kept fooling ourselves thinking it wasn't that bad.
Just trust your gut - I should have - I didn't think she needed this surgery to begin with and the vet looked at us like we were crazy asking if it was "really necessary" and "is there a chance this could go away" because she had NO SIGNS of infection or pain or anything. I will never go back to that vet - EVER!
