Hello
Is it safe to give a 2 mo kitten a bath? My kitten is long haired and has an eye infection. I’ve been using ointments but it’s leaving yellow staining on his fur!

I read that it’s unsafe to bathe a kitten when they are too young. Is it true? I’d love to take him to get professionally groomed but I’m not sure if it might be too early.

Also, is it ok to brush a kitten at this stage?

Much thanks

I gave one of my cats several baths when he was younger than 2 months. He had been rejected by his mother, covered with fleas and too young for the spot treatment. He was fine. The main thing is too avoid letting him get chilled.

I gave my kitty a bath right away upon bringing her home from the shelter; she was two months. She had dead flea dirt or whatever and I was afraid of her have an egg or something that would start an infestation.

She took it very well. There are tons of videos on YouTube showing how people bath their cats. A couple of pieces of advice- don’t try a hairdryer, most cats freak. Also, don’t use a stream of water on their head, especially kittens. Water in the ears is a no, no. Wet a rag after to wash the head. I use a damp rag folded to get in the ear bit. She loves that part.

My poor kitty had an eye infection too. She hated the drops, I think they stung, poor baby.

Somewhere I read that it's good to groom a kitten using an old toothbrush. Supposedly, it gets them used to grooming. I've been doing it with my kitten (six weeks of age or so). It doesn't do much in the way of grooming and everything is playtime to her at this point, but I guess it couldn't hurt.

She's long-haired so I've had to give her a couple mini-baths already. She's not all that good at cleaning herself up yet.
