I'm currently eliminating some things from my kitten's diet and for now I'm trying to find only named proteins. Meat by products is too broad and I don't know what kind of meat it is. I think my kitten doesn't do too well with beef and meat by products may have beef so for now I don't want it in his diet. Is there any brand similar to Fancy Feast that doesn't have meat by products but has a price range about the same? I'm probably asking for too much and I'm sure it's that cheap due to that particular ingredient.

There are several brands that come in the 3-oz cans, if that's what you mean. Petco or Petsmart will have several to choose from. But, yeah, they do cost more. Usually around $1 for the 3-oz cans, unfortunately.

Pesky cats, getting expensive food intolerances! Grumble. . .

You probably need to feed your cat white meat. Chicken, turkey and rabbit. They are natural prey to the cat but not pigs and cows. But sorry i don't know of any inexpensive brands with limited ingredients basically. The only other thing might be home made but thats another can of worms.

For the price point it will be hard to find one without meat by products.

Have you looked at Purina Beyond? I dont think most of them have meat by products. Quite a few have spinach, and this is an ingredient i refuse to feed, so i watch for that.

Chewys american journey food is a good price, no by products.

I think Chicken soup is also a good price, and no by products.

I know Triumph is similar to Friskies but without the by-products. It does have the small amount of rice though which is the only different between Friskies and FF.

The only thing that made my Krista sicker than Purina Beyond was Nature's Variety Instinct. I never want to clean up carrot and cranberry vomit again. Neither belong in a cat's diet.

Krista loves Tiki Cat. She especially loves the Velvet Mousse but we're still working out her digestion on that one. She gets a little on top of the Aloha Friends Tuna with Pumpkin until her litterbox shows me she can handle more.

Vomit is no fun, thats for sure. All cats are different i guess, mine love carrot, i feed an Almo nature that has chicken and carrot, they like it a lot. My guys have never thrown up from food, and i hope they dont. They have never had a problem with Beyond, other than they wont eat much of it, as they are not big pate fans. They wont eat any of natures instinct. But one if he eats food with much in the way of peas, the littler box is not fun.

While I know cats don't need spinach or other veggies, is there harm with too much spinach? I was looking at the Beyond wet and they have spinach plus fish in most of them.

Cats can't use it. It's roughage. Fiber. Cats aren't tooled to derive nutrition or energy from vegetable sources. The inclusion of spinach is to sell to you. Not the cat.

Now someone is going to say that cats eat prey that eat vegetables. That's true. But they also generally avoid the stomach and eat the juicier, more appetizing organs. But even if they did eat the stomach, that vegetable matter would either be predigested by the prey or it would come with the prey's digestive enzymes. On its own, it is more likely an irritant than a nutrient.

cats with urinary or kidney problems should avoid spinach as it also contains calcium oxalates which can contribute to the formation of crystals in the urinary tract. I read this a lot if you search about cats and spinach.

So i avoid it will all cats, not just cats with urinary problems. Just one of my NO ingredients.

I will read up on that information. Having a male cat, I’m trying to do everything possible to keep his kidneys and urinary tract healthy.
