So we went to a kill shelter and I adopted the sickest cat of course.

She had an upper respiratory infection, ear mites and we later discovered Giardia.

Tulip was estimated to be between 6 and 8 months and was severely under weight at about 4lbs. Now shes over 6 lbs, jo more coughing no runny eyes. But I'm LOSING MY MIND WITH GIARDIA.

She infected our other cat.

Theyve been through one treatment now of the oral liquid which didnt work.

The second time it was liquid and panacur which was 3 days worth and all of whi j we finished medication 4 days agi.

Our older cat Bagheera seems symptom free. Firm stool, no smell.

Tulip however seems to be getting worse. Her stool is turning total liquid and is becoming lighter in color and just reeks.

What we are doing so far:
-both cats are separated in their own large dog crate
- litter pans are changed 2x per day using trashbags to easily dispose of all used litter and the pan gets sanitized each time with lysol
-we vacuum and lysol the crate 1 to 2x per day
-they each have a cat bed that we wrap in a t shirt that we change daily
-water bucket thing gets changed daily
-food plate gets changed multiple times a day
-they have e collars on when not being fed

Weve now given them both 2 baths this round of treatnent.

But tulip just liquid pottied and got it all over he legs and butt and I feel hopeless.

We do let them out to wander and play in the garage area but not together.

I cant figure out why tulip is getting worse. And I cant seem to keep her clean and giving her a bath is a nightmare and I get covered in scratches.

Tomorrow I take their stool in for more samples and medication.

I'm exhausted. I'm tired of cleaning. I tried to do a good thing and it's taking the life from me! And its SO EXPENSIVE. HELP

Welcome to TCS although I'm sorry your cat's health problem is what brought you here. Thank you for adopting and saving this girl from a kill shelter. :thanks:

Does she have an appetite? Is she dehydrated? Here is an excellent Article on Giardia: Giardia And Giardiasis In Cats

I agree veterinary care can add up and become expensive. Perhaps this Article which discusses how to help with vet costs may be helpful for you:
No Money For Vet Care? How To Find Help And Save Your Cat's Life

I'm glad to hear you are working with your vet to resolve this problem. Please keep us updated on her progress.

Shes definitely got lots of appetite. I feel like I've read every article out there since 2012 Haha and it just seems like this is a nightmare.

She doesnt seem super thirsty, nor does our other cat. But we give them wet food (royal canin) which has liquid in it.

Keep up with your vet, and the medications. Clean everything.

One of my kittens had a horrible case of Giardia, when we first rescued him. It took several months to get him cleared up. Bless his heart. If i had it in me i would have given up on him, several times. He got better with the booty baths after a while.

I feel your pain, i cried a lot of tears over my kitten didnt think he would ever get well. and i felt so guilty for being so tired of it and wanting to give up. I didnt, and im glad i didnt. Now 3 years later he is the healthiest cat imaginable. Never a poop or digestive problem one. And i kind of love the little guy. :heartshape:

keep up with the vet, test for other things that could contribute such as coccidia. and remember this will pass. I know right now it doesn't seem like it. but it will. Keep us updated. and try to take some time for you too.
