This is Thousand Hills lake. It's a huge lake in a huge state park. They used to charge about $3 because they had to pay lifeguards. But sometime in the last several years, they did away with the lifeguards and put up "swim at your own risk" signs.

Expect, no, that's a bad thing. But when family or close friends congregate usually the understanding is that all adult eyes are on all kids, and therefore assistance with children is freely offered and many hope to have their help accepted (after all, they miss their nephew/cousin/BFF's mini me). Unless this is a really weird family relations someone would have been thrilled to help Aislyn around the water.
I know you are still fairly new to parenting, so my two cents - if you trust the person, accept their offer of help when you need it. Just because they are ultimately yours and John's responsibility doesn't mean that other people can't help out in specific circumstances, such as with water safety.
I'm sure they will and if people do offer, I'll definitely take the opportunity to do some swimming on my own. I would have gone even if John did have to work. But I feel better having both parents available.
We have some really big lakes here also. I've never heard of having to pay to swim in one though.
Some beaches have lifeguards, you don't have to pay to swim in the ocean. At least, not with money...your leg maybe if there's a shark around.
A moth got inside. The cats are in the process of trashing the house while trying to catch it. Every few seconds there's another crash. Oh, and they just woke the baby up. At least they're having fun, I guess?

Been there, done that, my sympathies.
I'll clean it up later. I was too tired last night and I have to get all our stuff together to go to the lake and figure out where I put the waterproof baby sunscreen.

Update on the cat that does her business on the floor instead of in the box. The puppy pad IN the litter box without any litter seems to have done the trick at least for the pee. I had noticed no pee on the floor for two days but the puppy pad had wet on one side. Hm! This morning I saw her slinking towards the bathroom so I peeked around the corner to see where she was heading and she went right into the box with the pad which already had a wet spot on one side and peed on top of it, yeah! When she came out I praised her, told her she was a good girl and gave her treats. Let's see if that is going to keep on. Unfortunately she left me a poop present on the floor in front of the LR during the night but it's a start towards proper bathroom habits again. Who says an old cat can't change her behavior? Heck, this is so positive it should be on the Pawsitive thread!

It breaks my heart a little to see posts like "help, my cat is too needy" on this site, where the poster's main complaint is that the cat just wants to be near them. Or "help, my cat meows when they're hungry" Like jesus christ get a stuffed animal if you want something cute that never eats, poops, pees or plays.

I love that my cat is needy. The only problem I have is when she lies on my leg. With 25 lbs of her, my leg goes to sleep. Then I stand up, and fall on my face. And she just smiles and reaches over and grabs me with her huge paws...claws out. But I still love her.
Selene loves to be near me. Instead of gradually settling in next to me or on top of me, she flops down. I’ve never had a cat who did that before. It’s simultaneously touching and funny.
I don't think I could politely respond to those posts. Murphy is needed as can be. It's awesome. I never get lonely cuz Murphy is always there like, "get over here and let me love you!"

I hang out mostly on this thread for those reasons. The medical forum, it's either stuff I have no experience with and breaks my heart to read, or it's horribly sick or injured cats that need a vet but the money's not there and breaks my heart. The other stuff, I'm not afraid to be direct and blunt.

Additionally : Bebe has finally learned to use the cat door to the patio. She used to sit outside and look at the door waiting for me to open it, even stayed outside in the cold of winter overnight! After 3 years in this apartment she is finally learning things (she did not learn anything before that either): first to use the Litter Robot and now the cat door. And she is 18! What's next? Who says an old DOG, excuse me CAT, can't learn new tricks? Pawsotivity all the way.

The moth was caught and eaten. And last night I saw Connor catch and way a dragonfly. I guess they thought they needed some extra protein. Lol
You might check to see if either of the cats has a UTI. If they do, they soon associate the litter pan with the pain of trying to go.
If you don't ave to have a specific kind of litter for your pans, you might try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract. It was recommended to us by a feline behaviorist when Darwin was acting out by pooping right beside the pan. He watched as my husband put the new litter in and hopped into the box immediately. He hasn't missed since.

Neither cat has UTI and all my cats hated Cat Attract, they stopped digging in it, just left everything there on the surface. I did not like it either. Corn litter does not work well either. Just recently tried Arm & Hammer Ultra Last which appears a success, there is less litter on the floor, it really stops the stink and that is when Bebe started to use the Litter Robot (probably just a coincidence). Picky cat has been using the empty box with puppy pads in it to pee, but still poops on the floor in front of the LR, always at night. LR's drawer gets emptied every two days in the morning, puppy pads are changed every morning. No scooping and I need only the one LR, the original one I still have has not been used lately. I can put up with the way the situation is at this time but still hoping that picky cat (Capucchino) will eventually go back to the LR.
