I was reading a thread on here a little while ago about seafood and how fish is bad. I feed, in terms of dry, mostly the fancy feast pates. My guy is picky and barely likes anything else. He'll pick at some other brands but then 'meh' and walk away.

I was wondering which brands have options with cans that contain no seafood? It seems to be hard to find. Fancy feast chicken pate (classic) does have 'fish' as an ingredient, unfortunately.

Please note I'm in Canada...

Most pet food brands have recipes without seafood. The ones to avoid are Tiki Cat and BFF. Daisy hates seafood except for chicken/salmon treats, so I look for foods that don't have fish.

What about tiki cat wet foods? I don't have experience with it but see it highly recommended. Wellness foods also good choice. Nature's instinct is another higher end food that seems to be well liked. Nature's balance is a tad cheaper than instict. I couldn't get my cats to eat anything other than seafood feast from fancy feast or turkey pate for my angel Floey. Wish my cats would eat better foods but they won't

Tiki Cat puts seafood in almost every recipe, even if it is not named on the product label.

My guy seems to like the new Pride Instinct cans....I need to check which ones don't have fish...but they do have some kind of mono-something or another clay in them. What is that and is it a concern? Also noted some veggies like peas and carrots mixed in there. Is it considered a high carb food? So many concerns...ugh.

Merrick limited ingredients are a one protein kind of wet food. It's typically chicken, rabbit, turkey, and duck. There is also Hounds and Gatos that offers a really great line of food (haven't tried them myself). I'd also look into Wellness Core. We really like the Beef, Lamb and Venison over here.

Also, all these brands I got off of petonly.ca

I bought the core chicken, am still waiting to feed it to him, and I've tried Hounds and Gatos before. They're pretty expensive, and some are a hit and miss.

Is the core high carb? That's my concern, especially for a male cat...making sure it's more proteins than unnecessary carbs...?

Is it the Classics, Signature Select, or 95% Chicken?

Nulo puts fish in everything. I used to feed that exclusively when it was just Luna. Then she quit liking it.

I thought only some FF had fish while others did not.

yogakitty yogakitty - catfooddb.com has good estimates of the carb content of most foods. It is estimated, but it's a good guideline. Also, if you find a food you like or want to try you can email the manufacturer and they will often provide the carb content (this I would trust more, some TCS members have noted discrepancies between the manufacturer and the website estimate).

Also, a little bit of fish oil, salmon oil etc tends to be ok. The largest thing to watch out for is fish as the first few ingredients, and Menadione (synthetic K3) listed in the ingredients.

The only problem with that is how many cats can't eat chicken. do they have food with no fish or chicken for cats like yours?

Did the OP have an issue with chicken? I thought that the post was about avoiding fish.

I feed chicken foods to Olive, I just try and make sure I provide a rotation of proteins to avoid causing an intolerance.

I feed the pride line and it is not high carb , although the flaked kinds are lower in carbs than the minced. The veggies in those recipes are very minimal (5 % ). The clay in that is supposed to be a detoxifying agent. All in all i think it’s an excellent food

I always wondered if clay in some recipes is bad for cats or just a useless filler.
